The Synopsis:
Perfect for fans of Abbi Glines, the first novel in the Dark Obsession series tells the story of a beautiful wallflower who falls for a chiseled street fighter—and learns just how dangerous love can be.
Beatrix Becker spent most of her life under the thumb of her controlling, abusive father. And now that she’s free and attending her dream college, she has no idea how to act like the normal crowd: partying, going on dates, even having a conversation. Then she meets Serge Sorensen. Big and surly with a whole host of riotous tattoos, Serge is supposed to scare the hell out of her. But beneath his harsh exterior, Beatrix discovers a kindred spirit who knows what it’s like to be a misfit. Most exhilarating—and terrifying—is what he does for a living: illegal street fighting.
There’s nothing like the rush Serge gets from the intense athleticism and brutal glory of combat—though his chemistry with Beatrix comes close. Slowly at first, he introduces her to his world, where he lives by instinct, passion, and desire. He even helps her out with her equally traumatized brother. But when Serge gets in too deep with the wrong people, he ends up paying in blood. And suddenly, just as Beatrix has been drawn into Serge’s perfectly sculpted arms, she’s thrown once and for all into the fight of his life.

My ‘Blogging Reader’s ARC-Review’ after reading ‘NEVER LOVED’ (A Dark Obsession Novel Series – book #1):
This is the first novel I’ve read by author Charlotte Stein titled “Never Loved.” This novel is of the new adult and contemporary romance genres with a little suspense intertwined. Never loved is of the new novel series called Dark Obsession Novel Series and definitely had a generous amount of erotic moments as well. This novel is written from the main female character’s P.O.V.(point of view) Beatrix Becker.
Growing up with an aggressively-abusive and controlling father, scarred Beatrix Becker and her brother Tommy. Despite surviving that life, Beatrix became her brothers protector while trying to better her future as a college student while continuing to carry many of the controlled characteristics she learned under her father’s manipulative ways. By taking on the role of protector to her brother Tommy, as soon as they were out of their father’s home, he would constantly find himself in bad situations. Beatrix would always be the one to help him and make sure he was safe. Freedom was a great thing but Tommy got out of control at times with bad habits he picked up with that new-found freedom. When Beatrix goes out in search of her brother once again, she finds herself in dangerous situations at times but this time, she is faced with a different kind of danger: the danger of having an unfamiliar attraction to a man that most see as a scary man but she sees something more.
Serge Sorensen looks like a dangerous and scary man to anyone he comes across. The tattoos, the unique hairstyle, his giant-massive six-foot-something height, and the reputation in the street fighting world tends to confirm that he is not one to be messed with. When this sweet little college girl comes face to face with him, he has no idea the strange connection they feel is just the beginning. Even though Serge feels this urgent need to constantly protect Beatrix or “Bea” as he prefers to refer to her, he wants to protect her from his screwed up self also. So he finds himself pushing her away. His father was a drunk who would take it out on Serge but even though he became rough and tough, there was always deeper layers that not many knew about. No one could see his heart, but could Beatrix be the one to break through his tough exterior?
Will Tommy bring his sister Beatrix down with the bad situations he always finds himself in? What secrets is Serge keeping? Will Beatrix ever come out of her shell? Never Loved is more or less an enjoyable story because of the characters and the flow of most of the storyline. I wish the epilogue continued the story in a thorough way instead of the way it went. I was left assuming of where they were and what had become of them. There were some great spots in the story where you can completely get enraptured by the character interactions between Beatrix and Serge. At times, there were a few moments, and I mean very few, that kind of brought down my enjoyment of this novel. The story is there and had its good layers but some of the wording used to describe characters and some of the situations threw me off. On the plus side: This novels steamy scenes were very enticing and alluring. Those moments alone, made this story worth continuing to see how the story would unfold. All in all, this story was an okay novel. If you are looking for something decent to read next, give this one a chance if this sounds like your kind of novel.
