Raze by Tillie Cole

The Synopsis:

To take back life, one must first face death…

One man stripped of his freedom, his morals…his life.

Conditioned in captivity to maim, to kill and to slaughter, prisoner 818 becomes an unremorseful, unrivaled and unstoppable fighter in the ring. Violence is all he knows. Death and brutality are the masters of his fate.

After years of incarceration in an underground hell, only one thought occupies his mind: revenge…bloody, slow and violent revenge.

Revenge on the man who lied.

Revenge on the man who wronged him.

Revenge on the man who condemned him and turned him into this: a rage-fueled killing machine. A monster void of humanity; a monster filled with hate.

And no one will stand in the way of getting what he wants.

One woman stripped of her freedom, her morals…her life.

Kisa Volkova is the only daughter of Kirill ‘The Silencer’ Volkov, head of the infamous ‘Triad’ bosses of New York’s Russian Bratva. Her life is protected. In reality, it’s a virtual prison. Her father’s savage treatment of his rivals and his lucrative and coveted underground gambling ring—The Dungeon—ensures too many enemies lurk at their door.

She dreams to be set free.

Kisa has known only cruelty and loss in her short life. As manager of her father’s death match enterprise, only grief and pain fill her days. Her mafia boss father, in her world, rules absolute. And her fiancé, Alik Durov, is no better; the Dungeon’s five-time champion, a stone-cold killer, the treasured son of her father’s best friend, and her very own—and much resented—personal guard. Unrivaled in both strength and social standing, Alik controls every facet of Kisa’s life, dominates her every move; keeps her subdued and dead inside…then one night changes everything.

While working for her church—the only reprieve in her constant surveillance—Kisa stumbles across a tattooed, scarred, but stunningly beautiful homeless man on the streets. Something about him stirs feelings deep within her; familiar yet impossibly forbidden desires. He doesn’t talk. Doesn’t communicate with anyone. He’s a man beyond saving, and a man she must quickly forget…for both their sakes.

But when weeks later, out of the blue and to her complete surprise, he’s announced as the replacement fighter in The Dungeon, Kisa knows she’s in a whole lot of trouble. He’s built, ripped and lethally unforgiving to his opponents, leaving fear in his wake and the look of death in his eyes.

Kisa becomes obsessed with him. Yearns for him. Craves his touch. Needs to possess this mysterious man…this man they call Raze.

My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ after reading ‘RAZE’:

I was so excited to be given a a chance to read and review this standalone novel by Author Tillie Cole titled simply “RAZE.” Oh my. The relationship between Kisa and Luka seemed to be so strong ever since Kisa was first born. This story was just WOW! RAZE is written in the two main character’s P.O.V.’s(point of views) Kisa Volkova and Raze.

Kisa Volkova has been raised in a very dark, rough yet privileged lifestyle. She has always been a beautiful girl who grew up to be a strikingly attractive woman. As a child her life seemed wonderful because of her naivete of feeling secure with the people around her to always be trustworthy. Her life seemed predestined since her older brother Rodion was set to be the first of the younger generation to take on the family “business”, followed by Alik, and then Luka who were all sons of the three leaders of the Bratva rule. Her best friend Luka, was always her protector and as they were young teens, their feelings would grow into something more. But Alik also wanted Kisa as his own and his temper always made her scared of him.

Luka Tolstoi was the third in line and never really questioned the life he was being raised in. He was a handsome young boy who had always had his eyes and heart locked on young Kisa. Their connection was strong since birth and the fact that their eyes held a physical symbol of that bond between them, made them never question it. Life seemed as close to perfect for them, that was until the ultimate betrayal that would end and destroy the lives of two of the young Bratva boys.

Raze is such a dark character and becomes such a killing machine that you wonder if he will ever be more than that. Now as adults, Kisa is under the obsessive control of Alik and his mean-spirited ways. The lifestyle they grew up around has made them all become dark and numb in their own ways but some things aren’t meant to stay a certain way no matter how hard some try to fight what is destined to be. Raze can not remember his past but only knows what he carved into his cell a long time ago: A name. A location. Revenge. Kill.

The characters in RAZE are strong, mesmerizing, dark, and absolutely perfect with their imperfections! This novel was truly captivating in such a raw way, deep and twisted yet beautiful and emotionally intense. Your heart will swell with adoration, break with sadness, burn with anger and mend because a love formed by fate is a power that can’t be forgotten.  Will Kisa ever get away from the obsessive control of Alik? What will be the cause of the dark day that changed Rodion, Luka, and Alik’s lives? Will Raze ever be free from the only life he knows? Author Tillie Cole does not disappoint. I highly recommend this one but be warned, it is gritty and absolutely enthralling in some ways that may be disturbing to some readers.
Check out RAZE as soon as it becomes available, you won’t be disappointed!

MY BLOGGING READER’S STAR RATING: ‘RAZE’  4 1/2 out of 5 stars:

1 star rating 4.5

How I imagined the characters while reading ‘RAZE’:

1 collage 2

1 teaser 1 1 teaser 2

Boy’s thoughts:  Boy had been taught from a very young age never to show emotion. His father would punish him if he dared complain, never mind cry. He refused to start here and now. Boy resolved to remain composed, lugubrious, and stoic…anything he had to be to get through this…this, whatever the hell it was.

Kisa’s thoughts:  He was Alik Durov- the man who decided to make me his when we were just a couple of Bratva kids trying to wade through the trials and tribulations of a rough mob life. The boy I had never looked at as anything more than a friend, until he forced me to look at him as something more.

818 and 362: “Go kill the one that condemned you, 818. You’re ready. You’ve been ready for this day for far too long.”
Mirroring his action, my hand hit his arm. “You too.”
362 dropped his hand but looked up to say, “Hopefully we’ll meet again, 818. If not, get back the life you lost and I’ll see you in the next.”

Raze to Viktor:  “Raze. The only name I’ve ever been called is Raze. Because I’d raze any fucker that got in my way.”

Kisa’s thoughts: Raze was disturbed. Cold. Unfeeling…And I was insanely and irrevocably attracted to him. His fresh snow smell, his rugged and raw face, his ripped and cut body…the muscles, the tattoos…the way he growled when he talked, but… It was the eyes. I was losing my mind over those eyes.

Raze’s thoughts: Durov owned Kisa. She was his. I didn’t like hearing that. Fuck, I felt murdering crazy on hearing that fact. I wanted her. I had no reason to, had no idea who the woman was, why I was drawn to her… why she was fucking up my training, but I wanted her.
