This is the second novel of the ‘Fighting Series’ by J.B. Salsbury titled ‘Fighting To Forgive’. In this story we get to know Jonah’s friend and fellow MMA professional fighter, Blake Daniels who made memorable appearances in book one of the series. We also get introduced to a new female main character, Layla Moorehead, who moves to Las Vegas from Seattle, with her teenage daughter. Readers get a chance to enjoy the story from the two P.O.V.’s(point of views) from both Blake and Layla.

Blake Daniels is a great Mixed-Martial Arts Professional fighter who is also great at pulling female companionship for fun temporary satisfaction from any of the willing and waiting. But he is also skilled at never getting emotionally invested with any of them and that’s just how he plans to keep it. He’s tall, attractive, well-built, confident and has no problem making jokes that drip with sexual innuendo. Underneath all of this strength and confidence, he hides secrets that have scarred him and made him the the illusive person he has been thus far. With family that he really keeps his distance from because of a father who is all about control, his friends have become his chosen family, aside from his younger brother.

Then there’s Layla Moorehead and her teenage daughter, Axelle who are new to Las Vegas from Seattle. Layla is a petite early-thirties blonde female who is looking for a fresh start after getting a new job as an assistant. The new city, new job, new home is all the start of a new life that she has been wanting for so long. She has her own secrets and insecurities that threaten to creep up constantly because of the years she spent married to a monster. Layla has decided that her focus will only be her daughter and and making a good independent life for them. The furthest thing in her mind was meeting any kind of love interest.

When Blake and Layla meet, it’s not sparks and fireworks but annoyance and humor. These two people who carry the weight and scars of their past lives, try their best to steer clear of love or anything near it. But regardless of what they want, what they need seems to be the driving force behind them both. This is a great story that brings to light the harsh reality that does sometimes occur inside some relationships, while bringing a story of two imperfect characters to life. Will Blake give up his lifestyle, to accept what he feels? Will he be able to forgive his past and become a stronger person? Will Layla be able to become whole again after the nightmare she’s endured for so long? And will she be able to ever truly escape the past? I recommend this sequel novel of the Fighting Series because we follow these characters as they try to face their past, forgive what they can and move forward to better things that life has to offer. I have to add, the author did a terrific job at bringing a real life issue to light and giving reader’s the awareness about it through a fictional story but also offering helpful contact information.

Blake’s thoughts: Only twelve hours into the new year and I’ve got a no-strings playmate at the ready, and the fight of my career to train for that will put me up for title contention. Yep, this year’s promising big things.

Layla’s thoughts: Who knew raising a teenager would be so much fun? I don’t remember sassing my parents this badly at sixteen. Coming home pregnant, yes. Sass, not so much.

Blake and Layla: “What’s your name?”
“Layla. Moorehead.”
He throws his head back with a laugh so loud and deep it resonates off the walls. “Fuckin’ A, Mouse. That’s the best name for a chick I’ve ever heard.”
Oh here we go. I should have known a man like this would have the sense of humor of an eighth grader.

Layla dark flashback and thoughts:
‘Everything about you screams easy.’-(flashback)
The voice in my head slashes through the spell. Blinking to clear the haze,
I curse the debilitating abuse that haunts me still.

Layla’s thoughts: I’m determined to make this new life of ours beautiful. I can’t accept anything less. Not again.

Blake and his younger brother Braeden: “How’s mom?”-(Blake)
He blows out a long breath. “Same.”
“Yeah, I figured.”-(Blake)
“She misses you. Maybe you could give her a call sometime.”
My stomach drops at the mere mention of talking to my mom.
I went from being a protective kid to a resentful adult.

Blake’s thoughts: I can tell by the way her carefree smile disappears the second a man walks into the room. The way shadows move over her features when I flirt. She’s been hurt by someone- my guess is badly. And the last thing I need is to be picking up pieces of some other guy’s mess.

Blake’s thoughts: My body roars to take her. To bury in deep and lose myself forever. But I promised her one taste. As much as I’d love to spend the next few days ravishing her body, showing her what it’s capable of feeling, I won’t take advantage.

Blake’s thoughts: She’s got an ugly past, a teenage kid who’s working through some crap, and a serious case of the emotional yo-yos. The whole situation screams trouble. Annoyance. Waste of time. But all I hear is, ‘Don’t Let Her Go’.

Blake’s thoughts: It doesn’t have to be slow and sensual, on a bed or surrounded by candlelight. Making love isn’t about the where or how, it’s about the feeling.

Layla to Blake: “I know it sounds silly. But, everyone needs someone fighting in their corner, Blake. I’ve never had that, and neither have you. You own my heart and everything that comes with it.”

Layla and Blake: “I thought I told you, Snake. I don’t take orders.”
“Yeah, you told me. But I thought I told you, I’m a man who’s used to getting
what he wants. I won’t give up until I have you… all of you. Forever. I won’t settle for less.”

The Synopsis & My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ after reading ‘DIVERGENT’:

I first read this novel over a year ago and really enjoyed the story of Divergent. There is the first novel of the Divergent trilogy novel series by Veronica Roth and you can expect an entertaining blend of action, suspense and romance. The story is written in one P.O.V.(point of view) which follows the experiences of a young sixteen year old girl named Beatrice Prior living in a futuristic dystopian Chicago. Most people have conformed to a government organized grouping of it’s citizens.

There are 5 groups which are known as ‘factions’. Each faction consists of citizens who specialize and represent one particular virtue and live among others of the same faction. Those factions are: ABNEGATION (which are the Selfless), DAUNTLESS (which are the Brave), AMITY (which are the Peaceful), CANDOR (which are the Honest) and the ERUDITE (which are the Intelligent). All five factions have lived together, yet separately, with no issues and chose the Abnegation to govern their societies because of their lifestyle of selflessness.

When students of these factions become sixteen, they must go through a process to help them choose a faction that fits them best. They may choose the one they are born into or transfer to another. Beatrice and her brother who is only a little bit older than her, Caleb Prior, must choose what faction is best for them individually. If they choose to go to another faction, they must say goodbye to their families because of their motto which says it all: “Faction Before Blood”.

Once Beatrice chooses her faction, there is a competitive initiation of tests that begin. Under the process of extreme physical challenges, then emotional simulated tests, followed by intense mental and psychological simulations will decided if she and her fellow initiates will be a part of the faction or become one of the ‘factionless’. Beatrice, who chooses to go by ‘TRIS’ now, must not only survive and pass the initiation process but she must also figure out the social aspect inside of the faction. Tris must figure out who are her friends and who will do anything to win. And then there is her somewhat mysterious instructor who simply goes by the name of ‘FOUR’. He is only eighteen but seems very mature and skilled within the faction. I definitely recommend this novel because it’s a part of a very interesting series that does not focus on romance, suspense or action, it gives an equal amount of it all in an entertaining fashion. Check this series out and read it before you go check out the first book to movie adaptation ‘Divergent’ in theaters now. 🙂

Beatrice ‘Tris’ thoughts on ‘Four’: He is not sweet or gentle or particularly kind. But he is smart and brave, and even though he saved me, he treated me like I was strong. That is all I need to know.

A History Refresher on who this American Hero was…

American Cesar Chavez (1927-1993) was a prominent union leader and labor organizer. Hardened by his early experience as a migrant worker, Chavez founded the National Farm Workers Association in 1962. His union joined with the Agricultural Workers Organizing Committee in its first strike against grape growers in California, and the two organizations later merged to become the United Farm Workers. Stressing nonviolent methods, Chavez drew attention for his causes via boycotts, marches and hunger strikes. Despite conflicts with the Teamsters union and legal barriers, he was able to secure raises and improve conditions for farm workers in California, Texas, Arizona and Florida.

I originally read this novel when it was first published but now that The Curse Series released it’s second novel to the series, I felt compelled to share my honest review of this enjoyable series. This was a wonderful story because it’s set in the present day, with a nice blend of the story’s history and the tragic events that changed the lives of Payton and those close to him. As the reader, you will get to enjoy this great story through seven different P.O.V.’s(Point of views). We get the two main-character’s Samantha and Payton’s P.O.V’s through most of the novel. We also get a few moments from Payton’s brother Sean, their older brother’s fiance Nathaira, and her old lover Alasdair’s P.O.V.’s in Scotland. Then you have a few small snippets from Samantha’s best friend Kim and a classmate named Ryan’s P.O.V’s from her hometown in Delaware. It all works well and blends nicely through out the telling of the story.

Samantha Watts is a young teenage girl who just lost her grandmother. As she sorts through her grandmother’s belongings, she discovers a beautiful antique amulet and an old diary of some kind that seems to date back many years before her grandmother. She saves it and thinks nothing of her findings at first. She ends up agreeing to go on a school-exchange trip to Scotland especially after not wanting to deal with any of the teenage drama going on in her life over the summer break. Upon arriving, she settles in but not too long after that, she ends up meeting a tall attractive guy who seems mysterious in many ways but there seems to be some kind of unexplainable connection between them instantly. There is so much mythical mystery from the lands but somehow the antique items Sam brought with her from her late-grandmother, seem to slowly unravel a historical story and the possibility that fate had a hand in her coming to Scotland to begin with.

Who is the handsome Scot who crosses paths with Samantha? His name is Payton McLean and he is also known as a Highlander with a mysterious life and a past. After certain feelings arise when he’s around Sam, he is torn between curiosity and pain, to unravel the truth about this mystery girl who’s come to town and made him feel things he hasn’t felt in so long. His family and those in his clan that he is aligned with, soon try to find out more about why things are changing about them after so long.

When Samantha’s normal present-life and the life that she discovers in Scotland collide, can she handle what she slowly begins to discover about herself and her ancestors? Can Payton and those in the same clan as him, figure out why the changes are happening? How will they deal with it all? Find out when you read this wonderful story. I truly enjoy how the story has a mystery that you slowly unravel as the story draws closer to the end of the novel. The blend in the story of the present day and the stories of long ago are brought together and told nicely. Can love even begin or will it be too painful to bare? And, is forgiveness even an option when the truth is told? For a YA, it’s still a great story that I feel any age can enjoy if they love a simple yet enjoyable read and love to read a story that blends history into it. Check this one out. The ending is perfect in leaving you ready for it’s follow-up novel of this series. 🙂

Payton’s thoughts: Could he tell her the truth? He would ask her to forgive him. Then he would leave her in peace, never see her again- and love her for the rest of his endless life.

“If you say so,” Payton mumbled.
“You don’t know this? You almost freaked out just because I made a few joking remarks to her.”

The Premise and My ‘Blogging Readers Review’ after reading ‘The Curse: Breath Of Yesterday’:

WARNING: Possible SPOILERS if you haven’t read ‘Touch Of Eternity yet.

For this second novel of The Curse Series by Emily Bold, I have to say that this series just get’s better and better. I enjoyed the first novel but something about this sequel novel, just seems to pull at the heart strings more so. I’m sure this had plenty to do with the already established relationship that you grow to love between the main characters, Samantha(Sam) and Payton, who now must face the next test of time. Reader’s get to enjoy this story through multiple P.O.V.’s, which will be through Samantha “Sam” Watts, Payton McLean, and a few other small P.O.V’s from: Milord Fingal McLean, Sean McLean, Nathaira Stuart, Cathal Stuart, Vanora and Dr. Lippert.

The story continues soon after where the first novel ended: leaving one Stuart sibling dead, a curse broken but another one set by someone new. Samantha ‘Sam’ Watts now has a relationship with her fated love, Payton McLean and they make sure to show each other how much that love means to them. But soon after the bliss of being able to touch and kiss, without causing pain to Payton because of the previous curse, they discover that something is not right with Payton McLean. Something is terribly wrong.

A curious doctor, Dr. Lippert, tries to get a hold of Payton to do more blood work but he is not available since he’s chosen to go back home to Scotland where it all began. Payton decides to do something that Sam does not want to believe he means. She knows that the love they share is strong enough to overcome whatever may be troubling Payton, or at least that’s what she hopes. Sam flies back to Scotland, only to find that Payton, the love of her life, is very ill and only getting worse.

With time working against them, Payton, Sam and Payton’s brother Sean, begin to research everything they can to try and find out what is going on with Payton and to see if there is a way to help him. They must try every and any thing before time runs out and Payton is lost forever.

This second novel of the series, takes you on a journey from the present day back to a time long ago, when the McLean and Stuart families were in their present lives. Can a solution be found before it’s too late for Payton? Is the bond of love that Sam and Payton share, strong enough to withstand the true test of time? I highly recommend this novel, but make sure to read the first novel ‘The Curse: Touch Of Eternity’, because the story is a wonderful continuation from there. Something about this story ‘The Curse: Breath Of Yesterday’, just goes deeper and will definitely please the reader. Also, if you’re a fan (or not) of stories that visit the past, this one has plenty of that. I personally, have never been a huge fan of stories like that, which is why I recommend this one because it has made me a fan, completely! Make sure to check out The Curse Series by Emily Bold. The third and final installment of this series will be coming out in the near future. I’ll post the updates about the third novel of The Curse Series when more information becomes available. I’ll definitely be looking forward to more from this series.

I don’t need to use force to find out what you know.” His face came closer. “In fact, I don’t need to use force to get anything I want.” His lips almost touched mine, and his breath caressed my skin. Samantha’s thoughts: I closed my eyes and only heard the beating of his heart. This heart was everything I ever wanted. No matter the era. I couldn’t allow it to stop.

Payton’s thoughts: It had never occurred to him to treat her as his enemy. Instead, his heart must have known right from that very first moment that she was the one he would love.

Samantha and Payton: “I love the man you will become, Payton, but I wish I had the courage and strength to spare you this fate.”
“Sam. I’m not afraid of my fate. It has led you to me, and- whatever it may have in store for me- I accept it willingly as the price pay for your love.”

I savored the feeling… It was pretty simple, really: Payton McLean held my heart in his hands- forever and across all time.

Payton’s thoughts: He didn’t want to live in a world where her kiss meant nothing to him, only because he was damned to a life without feelings, emotions, love. No, she needed to leave him and let him walk alone into the dark.

This is the first novel of the Domino Trilogy Series by Jill Elaine Hughes. It is of the New Adult genre as well as the erotica section because of it’s risque feel due to some BDSM situations by some of the characters in the story. Don’t let that scare you away because it’s not solely what the story is about. You’ll find that there is suspense and other layers to the story as well. It’s written in the main female character’s P.O.V.(point of view), Nancy Delaney.

Nancy Delaney is a college student in her final year, hoping to become a successful journalist one day. She lives with her roommate and friend, Hannah Greeley, who never has a problem dating and having a good time. The complete opposite of Nancy who has been put-off on the idea of dating and partying and prefers to study and work hard at everything she can, to reach her career goal. Nancy keeps her wardrobe simple and never splurges on fashion like her roommate. Her parents live in Boston and are both college professors, while she resides in Ohio for school. She has a cocktail waitress job to make ends meet on her own. Unlike her roommate, who also has a job but lives above her means due to the fact that she comes from a wealthy family.

One day, Hannah asks Nancy to cover an art gallery exhibit for her Art News Now job, to which she agrees and borrows some nice professional dress clothes from her. Nancy had no clue that this would not be your run-of-the-mill art exhibit and the artist, Peter Rostovich, was more than she could ever imagine. Nancy has a naive innocence and a tough-edge to her too. As soon as she becomes more intrigued by Peter Rostovich’s art and lifestyle, she begins to wonder if she is just curious about his art of if she is actually discovering more about herself and her own taste.

Peter Rostovich is known to most as an enigma because he chooses to be a recluse. His art isn’t widely known in the commercial-art world but his work has been in circulation in the art world for a long time in certain circles. He’s originally from the Ukraine but moved to New York as a teenage-boy, to live with his mother. There are many secrets when it comes to Peter and the life he leads in the open and the life he lives in secret. There are rumors that he has ties to the Russian mob being that he’s so secretive about his life, many consider it as the truth. When he meets Nancy, he grows an interest in her and begins to pursue her.

As the story continues, Nancy becomes curious about Peter as she begins to unravel secrets about him while getting him to open up to her little by little. Peter introduces Nancy in more ways than one, to the world of BDSM. But as quickly as they grow closer, some of the darker secrets of Peter’s life threaten them in a dark string of events. Some people tied to Peter’s secret life, become a threat to the woman he is just beginning to know, Nancy. As the reader you are wondering, can Nancy be saved? Is Peter invested into the new relationship he was building with Nancy, enough to do anything for her before she is gone forever? You’ll find that this story has a feel of “Fifty Shades Of Grey” in it’s slight similarities that make us enjoy the story, but it has it’s own story twists and takes you in a darker direction, making it it’s own story completely. Check out this story of erotica, twists-and-turns, suspense and intrigue because it’s not afraid to take it’s readers down some dark paths. I like a story with great detail about what’s going on, but my only small issue with this story is a couple of sections where it details too much about things that weren’t majorly pertinent to the story but other than that, I enjoyed this story. I will be looking forward to reading about what will become of Nancy and Peter in the follow-up novel of this thrilling series. Please Note: It ends with a cliffhanger. Looking forward to the next novel more so because of the ending.

Peter to Nancy: “Honesty is a good quality in a writer. Or any creative artist, for that matter. You should be very proud of that trait, Miss Delaney. You’ll go far with it.”

Nancy’s thoughts: Meeting Peter Rostovich had been, shall we say, educational- if more than a little bizarre. I’d seen and felt things that evening I’d never felt before, and was not sure I ever would again.

Hannah and Nancy: “I’ve always wondered why you’d held out for so long and now I think I know.”
“What do you mean?”
“You were just waiting for the one nobody else could get. The perfect score.
Seriously, getting someone like Peter Rostovich interested in you
after only one meeting- jeez, that’s like, the Holy Grail.”

Nancy’s thoughts: His words didn’t match his actions. He was like a spider attracting its prey with a web that sparkled with morning dew. As he warned me away with his mouth, his body just dragged me in deeper and deeper.

Peter and Nancy: “It’s been wonderful making your acquaintance. But-” -(Peter)
“But what?” -(Nancy)
“But I would hate to lose you before I’ve even gotten a chance to know you.
I’ll move heaven and earth to make sure that doesn’t happen.” -(Peter)

I’ve come across a number of YA novels that are great stories, even though I am not in the target-audience age group for that genre. This one is definitely one of those rare jewels that truly was entertaining and endearing throughout the entire story. Even though the story is written in the main female character Rebecca’s P.O.V.(Point of view), you also get a bonus 2nd P.O.V. from a vengeful girl named Mary in the prologue. The journey that this story takes you on still feels very fulfilling in all of the aspects it tries to cover within this novel. This is all thanks to the likeable characters, the mystery surrounding the main characters and the story that hooks you and never let’s go through each chapter.

First you have Rebecca “Beck” Hales who is seventeen years old and lives in a small town in Wyoming with her parents and a cute hunting dog named Bullet. She is a beautiful girl who doesn’t really put effort into her looks but still get’s crushed on occasionally, nonetheless. She’s not your average teenager because she’s haunted by a crime she witnessed years earlier in the park across the street and doesn’t sleep well at night because of the nightmares that replay in her mind of that night. Thanks to her, the person who committed that horrific crime was caught and sent to prison. Unfortunately, something happens in her present day life, causing a whirlwind of events to flip her life completely upside down.

Then you have Beck’s best friend since they were toddlers, Ryan Forsyth. They have always been close, best friends through thick-and-thin and they even made a pact with each other that neither of them had ever broken. Ryan’s family moved away to Las Vegas from Wyoming, leaving Rebecca to try her best to continue through her days like normal, while inside, she always missed her best friend. The distance didn’t get in the way of Ryan and Rebecca’s friendship, especially when things went bad and Ryan became the main suspect in a school bombing.

Ryan confesses that he’s innocent and Rebecca is firm about his innocence too, but most people around them are assuming the worst since all signs and evidence is pointing at him. To top it all off, there are some threatening text messages they’ve been receiving, making them wonder if one thing is related to the other. Only time will tell and it’s quickly running out. They take off back to the town where the crime was committed, Las Vegas, to try to prove Ryan’s innocence. This story was superbly entertaining and I enjoyed every twist and turn that their journey takes the reader on. I highly recommend this book for any age because it’s a well told story. Honestly, I would like to see this become a series because the extra characters in the story like Andrew, Jordan, Tate, Brandon and even smaller characters like Anson and his sister Zoe seemed like interesting characters and I’d like to read more about their own stories. I’d be excited to read about them as well as hear how Ryan and Beck’s lives are going. Fingers crossed. So back to ‘Before They Find Us’, it’s a great suspenseful-thriller that has the mystery to keep you hooked till the end. Check it out! 🙂

Rebecca’s thoughts: This town won’t let me forget. People say it just takes time, but some wounds run too deep. Some things are never forgotten. Sure, no one had spoken of the crime in years. No one had egged my house since middle school, but it was always there, following me around like a shadow. And here’s the really sucky part: it wasn’t even my crime.

Rebecca’s thoughts: The guy who grabbed me in the dark tonight was ten times more a man than the boy who moved away. I filed all those observations behind a big sign in my mind that said, “Just Friends.”

Ryan and Rebecca: Ryan’s eyes lit at the sight of the food,”I could kiss you.”
“Don’t even think about it,” I said because I’d probably like it, and that was very, very wrong.
Ryan and I had been friends since we were two. You’re not supposed to be attracted to your best friend.

Rebecca’s thoughts: Ryan was my friend. He’d always be my friend. We could never be anything more than friends, or I’d risk losing him. Because, really, who is friends with their ex? No one.

Jordan to Rebecca: “Rebecca, it’s not just the Vegas Metro you’re up against,” he said. “It’s the FBI and the ATF. Until proven otherwise, they consider Ryan a terrorist.”

On Rebecca’s facebook from unknown: “You can run, Rebecca, BUT I WILL FIND YOU.”

Rebecca’s thoughts: Kyle couldn’t create a Facebook account from the grave. Still, I couldn’t get the images out of my head. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Kyle.

Ryan to Rebecca in her dream/sleep: “Just you and me, Beck. We’ll be safe here. ‘Cause we’re together.” In the dream I let myself slip into Ryan’s arms. I leaned my head against his shoulder, and he stroked my hair. “No one can hurt you now,” he said. “I won’t let them.” Because I knew he’d never lie, I let myself go. I sank into a deep sleep where no dreams haunted me.

Rebecca’s thoughts: I had less than one minute to tell Ryan what he meant to me, and I didn’t want to waste it. When our lips met, I gave him my cherished memories of us huddled together over comic books when we were kids, late-night chats on the phone, every smile, every time he’d told me I’d be okay. I tried to show him what it meant to have someone who believed I’d make it out of my darkness. He’d always stood in the light with his hand out, reaching for me until I caught hold.

Rebecca’s thoughts: Sure, sometimes this city felt like the seventh circle of hell with its traffic and the heat and lack of grass, but Ryan was here. Tate and Jordan and Mariah were here. Vegas gave me a new start. In the sunshine I finally let go of the darkness.

Rebecca and Ryan: “You deserve better.”
Ryan’s eyes narrowed. “Better than unconditional loyalty?
Better than someone who will risk going to prison for me?
Better than almost being killed to set me free?”

Andrew to Rebecca: “You told the truth when no one wanted to listen. They wanted to believe some outsider had done it. No one wanted to admit we raised that evil right here in this town.”

Ryan and Rebecca: “I’m fine,” he said. “Better now.”
“Me, too.” I needed this closeness. His steady heartbeat lulled me. His warmth melted the shock.
In his arms I’d finally be able to sleep.
“You know my parents will kill us when they find you here in the morning.”
Ryan’s breathing slowed. His reply was drowsy. “Don’t care. I’m not leaving you.”

I came across this novel by chance and honestly, I’ve come to the realization that I enjoy sport laced love stories so I gave this one a chance. ‘Fair Catch’ is the first of hopefully an exciting string of great stories to come from the ‘Love and Sports Series’. In this novel, you get to enjoy the story through three P.O.V.’s (point of views) from Lexi, Jake and Margo. While reading this story, I enjoyed the fact that it did not focus solely on one main relationship only, while keeping the rest of the relationships vague. You actually get the main characters, Lexi and Jake as the potential main relationship but you also get to know Lexi’s best friends Margo and their friend Parker too.

Lexi is in her senior year of college and has spent the last three-years focused on her softball captain role and school. Now, in her last year, she is faced with trying to figure out what to do with her future. Her best guy friend, Parker Hill, is an attractive baseball athlete but they are only friends who support each other. He talks her into going to a football party so she could start enjoying her senior year just a little more. After the last three years of never partying and just being focused on her sport and school work, she decides she’d live-it-up a little this year. Lexi is a beautiful, curvy in the ways that could make other girls jealous, athletic, blond-haired, blue-eyed independent female. She heard about the quarterback Jake Taylor but never really was interested in him because of his partying ways and reputation. But one day… their paths crossed…

Jake Taylor is a star football player at their college, who has spent his last three-years partying, womanizing with many of the willing-female athletes who enjoyed his partying ways, while somehow still finding a way to continue to be a great athlete. He decided that he wanted to do things differently in his senior year at college. His plan was to cut back on the partying, practice more, slow down on the womanizing and try to find a special someone. The loneliness of having lost his parents in his freshman year of college, has always followed him but now that he was about to be done with school, he wanted to clean up his lifestyle. Too bad for him, his reputation and past ways haunt him even though he’s changed how he lives out his senior year. He had heard of “Sexy-Lexi” but never had laid eyes on her until the one night she decides to go to one of the football team’s parties. After he finally sees and meets Lexi, he wants to do anything he can to get to know her.

Then there is the third P.O.V. from Lexi’s friend and roommate, Margo. She’s a leggy beautiful brunette with green eyes who loves to date a lot. Margo is on the softball team with Lexi and she’s also friends with Parker but she’s always kept a secret from them. She has the hugest crush on Parker Hill. Her character helps to give us a glimpse into the the ups and downs of the potential relationship between Lexi and Jake as well as how she deals with her secret infatuation with Parker.

I enjoyed this story very much because there is a nice depth in this story especially with the three point of views. Can Lexi get passed her insecurities in order handle the past reputation of Jake or will it be too much for her? Can Lexi trust Jake enough to let him know her biggest secret? And will Margo ever confess her growing feelings for her friend Parker? I recommend this coming-of-age story about love, becoming who you want to be and dealing with the challenges life hands out. I’m definitely looking forward to the next story of this series! 🙂 Once I get information about the continuation of this series, I will post it below.

Lexi’s thoughts on Jake: She cursed and hated herself for even thinking he was handsome, but how could she not? The guy was a freaking fantasy. No man should ever be that attractive.

Lexi and Margo about Jake: “I don’t like him. If anything, I despise the guy. He just noticed me for the first time last night! We’ve been in the same class since we were freshman. That is just insulting.”

Lexi’s thoughts: Life wasn’t fair. Finally she found a guy that was caring and sweet, yea he had a bit of a battered past but he had changed, before her eyes and it pained her that she couldn’t do anything about it.

Jake’s thoughts: He couldn’t walk away now. He was so close to something he never thought he would ever want, he couldn’t give up now. He was was never a quitter and he wouldn’t start now.

Lexi and Jake: “Jake?”

My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ after reading ‘LIFERS’:

This review is on the latest novel by Author Jane Harvey-Berrick titled: LIFERS. The story follows twenty-four year old Torrey Delaney, who left her life in Boston and her job as a paralegal after sleeping with her boss, who ended up being a jerk and making it hard for her to want to stay there. And it also follows a ‘fresh-out-of-prison’ ex-con named Jordan Kane, who carries guilt over so much but keeps it to himself in a town that seems to hate him for what he did eight-years prior. Readers, you will get to enjoy this story in the two main character’s P.O.V.’s (point of views), Torrey and Jordan.

Torrey Delaney is the daughter of a local preacher lady who she doesn’t have a close relationship with, after her mother left to when Torrey was thirteen. Torrey, now twenty-four, left Boston to sort her life out after leaving behind her job and mistakes. After arriving in the small town in Texas to live with her mother temporarily while she figures out the next direction in her life, she gets a quick job to make a little cash. She enjoys hooking up with random guys when she feels like it but many in town think she’s a little too “friendly” for being a preacher’s daughter. The thing is, Torrey doesn’t care! She is feisty, outspoken and basically a firecracker. One day a young mysterious guy walks into her job but after seeing how horrible the locals treat him, she becomes a little curious about him. She had no idea of his past and that he would soon be working for her mother as part of his parole agreement.

That brings us to the mysterious guy, Jordan Kane. He seems to be hated by most of the people of his hometown and even his own parents keep their distance and aren’t afraid to let him know how much they don’t want him around. He was just released on parole after eight years of being incarcerated. Jordan carries guilty for what happened eight years ago and just walks around quiet, feeling that all of the dislike people openly share with him, he deserves. He is handsome and tattooed from his years in prison but he is basically alone, since no one will have anything to do with him. After meeting the preacher’s daughter, he begins to slowly feel that he’s found someone who doesn’t judge him or hate him, regardless of his past. Feelings begin to blossom between these two.

Sadly, Jordan seems to carry his own dislike for himself and it is eating away at him as time goes on. The story takes the characters down the rocky path of dealing with loss, while hoping for some forgiveness from others while also trying to forgive oneself. Can Torrey accept Jordan’s past and is she strong enough to stand by him? Will Jordan ever be able to forgive himself? Read about their story and see if Jordan will be strong enough to handle the hate from a town against him and if Torrey is willing to stand by him while being disliked for associating with him. Yes, check this beautiful story out and see how Jordan and Torrey deal with the challenges they must face head-on and see if they will ever find what is best for them or if they are destined to be “Lifers” in that small town.

Jordan’s thoughts: I had to stay for another four months, maybe more, then I was out of here. I didn’t know where I was going to go- anywhere but here sounded good. And not one damn person was going to miss me.

Jordan and Torrey: “Here, everyone knows my story and has decided I’m trash.”
“Except me,” she said, still staring straight into my eyes.
“Yeah, but that’s because you don’t know me.”
“You want me to leave you alone?” The way she said it, I knew that if I said yes, she’d walk away and that would be that.
“No, I don’t want you to leave me alone.”

Torrey and Jordan: Then she stood in front of me, holding out her arms. “Well? How do I look?”
Beautiful. Gorgeous. Sexy. Off limits. “Um, fine,” I managed to squeeze out.
She raised her eyebrows. “You smooth talking stud. I can see that I’m going to have to watch myself with you.”

Jordan’s thoughts: …maybe it would be better if I went somewhere no one knew me. I wouldn’t be leaving anything behind- except Torrey. I felt the pain of regret in my chest. Yeah, I’d miss her.

Torrey’s thoughts: I wanted to know him, and I wanted him to have the chance to be the person he was meant to be, not just the shadow of a man he was right now.

Jordan and Torrey: “I wasn’t jokin’,” he said, holding my gaze. “I’m just so fuckin’ grateful that you’re here.” He took a deep breath. “And I really want to kiss you right now.”

Jordan Kane: “When she looks at me I can see my future in her eyes… She don’t know it yet, but she’s not gettin’ away from me.”

I was thrilled to be invited to read and review the ARC early-copy of the second novel of the ‘Love and Sports Series’ by Meghan Quinn titled ‘Double Coverage’ because I loved the first novel so much. First off I have to say the end of this novel left me saying, “Wow, just wow!” This story definitely takes you on a whirlwind of emotions because of the roller coaster these characters go on while dealing with feelings and the relationships they are involved in. As with the first novel, you will also get this story in multiple P.O.V’s, eight P.O.V.’s to be exact from: Piper, Mason, Lexi, Jake, Jax, Ryker, Hannah and Brooke.

On a flight to see her long time friend Lexi’s special day, red-haired beauty Piper Shores, had no clue how an obnoxious hot guy she meets on the flight would become more than she expected. After an eventful weekend of wedded bliss and new acquaintances, Piper gets back to her life as a waitress at a local Denver sports bar with her co-worker and friend Hannah. She becomes intertwined in an unexpected relationship with a sweet-loving southern guy named Jax, who she starts to fall for quickly. But Mason, with his alpha-male persona, seems to make her feel strong confusing emotions and won’t stop pursuing her once he realized that she makes him feel alive again.

Mason is Jake’s best friend and a professional football player in Denver. He met a female who was dressed with a hoodie and sun-shades, on his flight to be the best man in a wedding. After meeting Piper, he comes to the conclusion that she is rude but one sexy woman. Mason likes how Piper seems to make him feel alive again after having had his heart ripped out by his ex-fiance Brooke. Even though it takes him a little time to finally realize that Piper is who he wants, he has to deal with the fact that he might not be able to completely have her. But the one thing about Mason, is that he is determined to make Piper his.

Then, you have Hannah, Piper’s co-worker and friend. She’s sweet, nice and a good-girl who is dating a guy who she sees when he’s not away for business. Once she meets Ryker, Masons teammate and friend, he begins to never stop letting Hannah know that he’s interested in her. She is determined to wait faithfully for her boyfriend Todd, for the day that he’ll propose to her. Ryker on the other hand, is determined to make Hannah see that she should be his and until then, he offers her friendship.

In ‘Double Coverage’ you’ll get a chance to get to know all of the characters well. We get to experience the relationships as they blossom and we witness some as they are destroyed. As the reader, you’ll sometimes feel at odds about which people belong together. These characters seem so realistic because of their imperfections, their emotional turmoil and the choices they make while trying to figure out what they truly want. And let me warn you…there are many moments of hot interactions, filled with body on body, steaminess that will leave you breathless and make your toes curl.

Will Piper stay with her safe and sweet boyfriend Jax or will she follow her strong feelings for the hot-alpha-male Mason? Can Hannah stay happy waiting for Todd or will Ryker’s persistence pay off and win Hannah over? Find out where Brooke and a hot model named Ashlin fit into the equation. I recommend this book because it’s from a great new series and the characters of the the story keep you interested in seeing where the story will take each of them. Check this one out for sure. 🙂

Piper’s thoughts: Mason was a very impressive alpha male. Unfortunately, he was way too alpha for her. She already had to deal with an alpha male, her dad, most of her life, dictating her life. She didn’t need to get involved with one romantically, no matter how attractive he was or how much her body ached for the man’s touch.

Ryker and Mason: “Jesus, she was amazing.”-(Ryker)
Mason cocked an eyebrow at Ryker as if he was crazy. “Dude, you said two words to her.”-(Mason)

“Valid point.”
“Then, bring out the charm. Bring back the old Mason.”
“Easier said than done, man.”

Jax’s thoughts on Piper: He wanted to make sure the girl in his arms remembered who she belonged to. From now on, Piper was his; he had marked her and he was going to make sure it stayed that way.

Piper and Mason: “What are you doing here?” she asked, while her heart pounded uncontrollably.
“I realized I left with the wrong woman.”
“Mason…”
“Don’t Piper, please don’t. Just…just hang out with me.”

The Premise and My ‘Blogging Readers Review’ after reading The Education Of Sebastian:

I actually read this story of ‘The Education Of… Series’ last year before starting my blog book reviews but it was one of my favorite book Romance/New Adult novels that I had to go back and do a review on it because it deserves the praise. The story follows a woman by the name of Caroline ‘Caro’ Wilson and a young guy named Sebastian ‘Seb’ Hunter. The story is written in Caroline’s P.O.V. but regardless, you still get the full effect of this emotional and enthralling story.

You’re first introduced to Caroline ‘Caro’ Wilson, married to a Naval Officer named David Wilson, she had become robotic in many ways thanks to their marriage. Her husband always seemed to find something wrong with every and any little thing about her and instead of standing up for herself, she conformed to him. Her marriage was going on 11 years, both loveless and unhappily is how it felt to Caroline. Her husband had been assigned to San Diego, California and that is where she first met eight-year old Sebastian. He would come over to her home to talk about his day at school and she’d talk books and other fun things with him. Both shared an unhappy homestead and they seemed to find a small bit of happiness in their friendship. Eventually, David was reassigned to North Carolina, and Caroline had to leave a sad little boy named Sebastian behind.

Sebastian ‘Seb’ Hunter’s home was anything but warm and loving. His mother, Estelle was a drunk mean-spirited woman and his father, Donald was any angry-hateful man who was stationed at the Naval base in San Diego. Sebastian enjoyed going to Caroline’s home, to escape the dread of being at home with the parents that never really showed him much love. Somehow, he was able to not become the monster that he easily could have become, which would have been the result of his parents relationship with him. He was saddened to hear the news of Caroline moving away but he would remember all of the times he spent with her, giving him the only happy memories he had to hold onto.

Most of the story of ‘The Education Of Sebastian’ picks up about nine years later when David and Caroline are assigned back to San Diego. Living in the same military base, Sebastian, now an older teenager and Caroline, newly 30, meet again. So much has changed, yet have stayed the same. This story is truly intense, intriguing and will leave you torn with feelings of love and heartbreak by the end. I highly recommend this novel and it’s follow up because of the strong connection these characters share. The bond that is formed and the relationship they share, will pull you in and if you let it, you’ll fall in love with these character’s imperfections and their story. Check this one out. One of my all-time favorites indeed!

…The sweet, sad-eyed boy of eight had become a truly handsome young man.

Caroline’s thoughts: I’d guessed, and I think I’d guessed right, that this was all new to Sebastian, but he made me feel things I’d never experienced before: love and passion.

Caroline’s thoughts: He was beautiful inside and out. I loved the way he looked at the world with such zest and enthusiasm, despite the coldness of his parental home.

Sebastian to Caroline: “It’s always been you Caro. The first time I saw you, I thought you were the most beautiful girl that I’d ever seen. I thought you must be a princess, like Cinderella. It’s only ever been you.”

Caroline’s thoughts: Fate had thrown us together: who was I to deny it? No, that wasn’t right. I simply no longer cared. I had chosen- willingly, knowingly, deliberately. I chose love over law. And I didn’t care.

Caroline’s thoughts: …I felt lucky to have had him in my life. Knowingly or not, he’d been the catalyst for changing my life. I’d always be grateful.

Sebastian to Caroline: “You want honesty? Well, I don’t know what will happen… but neither do you. Maybe we’ll make it… maybe we won’t. But you’re giving up before we’ve even tried. I don’t understand. Why won’t you take a chance?”-Sebastian.
“What do you want to do?”-Caroline.
“Try. Just try.”-Sebastian.
“Okay.”-Caroline.

Caroline’s thoughts: I was so lucky. He was kind and thoughtful and caring. He was fun to be with; beautiful inside and out. I didn’t know a lover could be a friend, too. And he loved me. Me.

Sebastian to Caroline: “You’ve taught me who I can be, you’ve made me stronger. You make me want to see the magic in the world. I didn’t know falling love could be… like this.”

Caroline to Sebastian: “Ti amo tanto, Sebastian, sempre e per sempre.”

The follow up novel ‘The Education Of Caroline’ continues the story of the then ill-fated summer affair between Caroline ‘Caro’ Wilson and her young love, Sebastian ‘Seb’ Hunter in San Diego, about ten-years later. In this novel, you will read the story in Caroline’s P.O.V. We get to find out how these characters are doing in life, ten years after the bitter end of their summer romance ten-years earlier.

A decade later, Caroline who now goes by her father’s last name and the italian version of her first name, Carolina Venzi. With her new friends, who have no idea of the secrets Carolina left behind from her past, she also has the nickname of ‘Lee’ and lives independently. After leaving San Diego and moving to New York, she struggled with living on her own and dealing with the heartbreaking decision she had to make long ago. Eventually she started to build a life for herself. Now she is a journalist who has seen and traveled to many foreign locations for her work. Her latest assignment is to follow military personnel and to get their story during their deployment to Afghanistan. To be ready to go, she must first attend a ‘hostile environment’ program in Geneva.

Somehow, someway, fate brings her face to face with her past, head-on. Tall, still handsome, older but still as lovely as before, Sebastian crosses paths with her after all of these years. He has a reputation and Carolina has no idea if the present day Sebastian even has any of the ‘old Seb’ still in him or if life has made him a bitter man. This story is truly epic. Despite where life has taken them, underneath the bitterness, their long-lost romance lingers in the back of their minds. Sebastian, the man, meets Carolina, the confident woman.

I recommend this series because the story leads you down so many ups and downs that keep you guessing about what will happen next in their lives. Can they be together after so long? Or has fate proven time and time again that they were destined to fall apart all along? I highly recommend this two-book series because of the depth of these characters – and the challenges of love, moments of heartbreak and the emotional journey their lives are taken on. Can time truly heal all and is love strong enough to survive anything? I love this series! Definitely glad to have had the pleasure of reading this wonderful story by author Jane Harvey-Berrick.

Carolina’s thoughts: I couldn’t help thinking that in some ways I’d had the best of him then, before life had made him bitter.

Carolina’s thoughts: My heart swelled with emotion. My poor, beautiful boy: his entire family was Ches’s. He owned nothing, lived nowhere, and had no one. Except, perhaps, me: If I let him. If he wanted me.

Carolina’s thoughts: I wrapped my arms around Sebastian’s waist and thought what a difference a day can make. Yesterday, I’d been unhappy and abandoned. Today… well, it was the start of the rest of my life.

Carolina’s thoughts: …despite everything that fate had thrown in our path- time, distance, and age difference- we were in love.

Carolina’s thoughts: They say there are no atheists in foxholes. I say there are no atheists when you’re begging God to keep alive the person you love.

Sebastian and Carolina: “Caro… I don’t understand- why do you love me?”
“Just because… because the sky is blue and the sea is green.”
