My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ for “Carter Reed 2” (Carter Reed Series – Book #2) by Tijan:

***WARNING: Possible SPOILERS if you haven’t read the previous Novel of the Carter Reed Series.***

Is it the return of the “Cold Killer”? This is a long awaited and much anticipated sequel novel in the Carter Reed Series titled: CARTER REED 2 by author Tijan. These book covers are not only mesmerizing but very hot! I’m a fan of this series and have been so excited about finally getting my hands on this book. As was the first novel of this series, Carter Reed 2 is not solely a romance but also encompasses the fantastic blend of suspense and action throughout the storyline. This dark suspense follows the world that surrounds the dangerous lifestyle of Carter Reed and Emma. Readers will get the two P.O.V’s(Point of views) to the story of Emma Martins and Carter Reed.

Emma Martin’s life has completely changed over the past year. After the ordeal that unfolded and lead to the events that transpired in the first novel, her life has completely changed. She was reunited with an old friend who was her deceased older brother A.J.’s best friend, Carter Reed. She needed help and he went above and beyond. She lost a special friend and it hurt her but she also toughened up instead of letting it all break her down. Now, Emma and Carter are faced with new challenges. The one beautiful thing that came from all of the destruction is the love and connection she now shares with the love of her life, Carter Reed. He says he’ll do anything to keep her safe. Fight to keep her safe…he will. Take down everyone that means her harm… of course. Destroy everyone’s lives that stand in their way…Definitely! But what he didn’t expect was how much Emma would also do everything in her power to protect him too.

Carter Reed was a high-ranking and greatly feared man from the Mauricio family, the rival family of the Bartel family. Carter’s reputation of being a ‘cold killer’ had followed him for the many years he had been a part of the mob world. Carter picked up the spot as leader of the Mauricio family until recent, when he wanted to step away from that world to protect the woman he loves. He’s deadly and can become a ghost when he’s hunting his enemies. He was planning to try to live a normal life with Emma at his side but this lifestyle isn’t that easy to step away from especially when there are enemies lurking and waiting to pull him back in.

The Bartel family continues to be a threat especially now that someone has come out of hiding. Cole. Cole is the only living son of the former leader of the Mauricio family. He’s determined to find his rightful place is leader of the family with Carter’s support but threats are everywhere now that everyone knows he is back. Cole has been taught and protected by Carter for the past five years. The only thing that Carter and Cole didn’t expect was that not only is there a threat from their known rivals but there are the possibilities that someone is a traitor within their own mafia family. Will these possible threats be found before someone pays with their life? 

Emma tries hard to pull away from the close friends she has left because of the dangers that exist around her and Carter. When she finds out new information about her past and her family, she gets caught up in the excitement of that. Unfortunately, when enemies are around, anyone close to them is at risk. Soon they are all in danger and the only thing left is to fight back, survive and save those they care about. Will they succeed or will there be death?

This story continues to definitely blur the lines between good and bad as well as who is trustworthy and not. This is truly one of my favorite novel series’ and Tijan delivers such an enticing yet dangerous world with amazing characters. The gritty dynamics will definitely hook you. I highly recommend this novel and this series because the twists and turns will blow your mind. Carter Reed is a sexy but dark killer who would do anything for the ones he loves, especially Emma. And Emma is not a weak female character. She stands her ground every chance she can, making her such a likeable character, too.  Check out this one for sure. Worth the read. Bravo!

Emma’s thoughts:  In addition to being gorgeous, Carter was dangerous. He was known to be an assassin for a local mafia family, but what wasn’t known to anyone beyond a select few, was that he was out. He’d bought his way out, and he’d done it for me.

Emma’s thoughts:  …When my choices had seemed to be die or run for my life, I went to Carter: my brother’s best friend from childhood, the guy I knew because he’d slept on our couch for so many nights. This was still how I preferred to think of him, not as the man the city knew as the Cold Killer, Carter Reed. He was my soul mate.

Carter and Emma: He murmured against my skin, “Why is it that your presence can calm me? Your touch can make me alive, and one little sigh from you makes me want to sleep for days in your embrace?”
I smiled, moving to press a kiss to his ear. “Because you love me.”

Carter’s thoughts: I was attached to the Mauricio family, even if I was in business with both families. But if they touched Emma, all bets were off.

Carter and Emma:  “I can’t lose you.”-(Carter)
“You won’t.”-(Emma)
“They could come for you.”
I shook my head. “You’re not in, right? You’re making money for them. Why would they want to hurt you?”
His hands rested over mine. “Because it’s not about money. It’s about power. They didn’t kill you before. I handed them a solution on a silver platter, but Cole is back. His presence changes everything. They thought he was dead. It’s a matter of time before they find out I’m the one who saved him.”

Emma’s thoughts: I loved this man. He was scared of losing me, but it went the other way, too. No one would take him away from me. I wouldn’t allow it.

Emma’s thoughts:  Dangerous. Yes. Carter was dangerous. I raked a hand up his arm, curled it around his chin, and pulled him down to me. But he was my danger. He was my protector. And he was mine to protect.

Carter Reed:  “You know what I did to the Bartels. I cut their family in half. If you touch Emma. If you betray Cole. If there is any attack on my loved ones, I will hold you responsible. I will do more than cut your family in half.”

Emma’s thoughts:  Carter was my family.
He was the only one who counted.
Everything else would fall into place.

My ‘Blogging Reader’s ARC-Review’ for ‘THE GIRL WHO WENT MISSING’ by Ace Varkey:

‘The Girl Who Went Missing’ is an intense and dark mystery with many thrilling aspects to the storyline. This is the first novel I’ve read from author Ace Varkey. Readers will be reading the story through multiple character P.O.V.’s(point of views) which was about eight: June Warner, Commissioner Oscar D’Costa, a hitman named “No-Name”, Pat, William, Constable Mehta, Mr. Mirabbal, and Grant Krueger.

When June Warner tells her sister Thalia about the end of her engagement and recent break-up with Peter, Thalia invites her sister to visit her in Mumbai. This would be a much needed escape from her life in Berkeley, California and from Peter. Thalia has been doing research in Mumbai but she has always been a spirited person who has never been afraid of adventure. June decides to have an adventure of her own. She jumps on a plane to visit with her sister in hopes of having a good time to help her forget her recent failed engagement.

Upon June’s arrival to Mumbai, she’s left wondering where her sister Thalia is. She was supposed to meet her when she came to town but nothing. Worry and concern heightens with each passing moment as June can’t seem to find her sister anywhere. It seems that Thalia has simply vanished. With the fear that something terrible has happened to her sister, June becomes determined to find her sister in a country she knows very little about. As June digs deeper into the life in Mumbai while trying to find her sister Thalia, she uncovers certain secrets that her sister kept from her in her many emails and letters.

Commissioner Oscar D’Costa is the head of the police in Mumbai and has been aware of the seedy world and dangers that exist in his streets. These same violet dangers had hit him closely when it took the life of someone he loved so much. This made him determined to try and protect as many people as he could from the bad sides of the busy city. The locals as well as foreigners were at risk. When June shows up at D’Costa’s station, he tries to minimize her worries about her sister Thalia. June also went to the American Consulate’s office where Grant Krueger told her to give it a few days to see if her sister showed up. Because of rules and regulation, they really couldn’t do much. As time progresses, worry grows and everyone begins to try and piece together who was the last person to see Thalia. When a body is found, the plot thickens. There is more going on than they could imagine.

As the story unfolds, there are so many suspicious and questionable characters which just made the story such a captivating suspenseful-thriller. The mystery behind Thalia’s whereabouts flows through the novel, keeping readers guessing till almost the end. This mystery is dark, gritty at times and may not be suitable for all readers due to certain sexual crimes that are insinuated. Will June find her sister Thalia? Where is Thalia? Who can June really trust? And, who is behind so much that D’Costa is investigating? If you’re looking for a novel to read with tons of thrilling-suspense and mystery, then this may be the right book for you. Aside from all of the dark dangers on the story, you’ll also feel like you’re there in India getting a view of the beauty it holds also. Check this one out if it sounds like your kind of mystery.

June’s thoughts: This was not the arrival June had so eagerly anticipated. No Thalia. No phones. And an unknown man offering her a ride. If Peter were with her, he would have taken charge.

No-Name’s thoughts:  The boss had been born to his privilege, and it showed in the casual way his fingers tapped the wheel of his new car, the denim jeans he wore, and the broken Hindi which meant he was more comfortable speaking English. He, on the other hand, had killed his way up.

June’s thoughts about Thalia’s invite to India:  June had been touched, since usually it was she who took care of Thalia. From the time they were in bunk beds, Thalia would crawl in for a snuggle if she had a bad dream. Later, Thalia claimed that June’s soups cured her colds and coughs. Now, for the first time in their lives, their roles were reversed.

Grant’s thoughts: He had been intrigued by her sisterly devotion. Would his own sister have gone to such lengths so quickly or would she have given him a few days to show up? Admit it, he told himself, it had been a while since he had seen a beautiful woman so unaware of the effect she had on others.

William’s thoughts: Now the money was almost gone. That was why he was waiting for Thalia tonight. He knew that she often popped into the café to look for him. He wanted to ask her for money to pay back the men at the café. It was better than working for them. He would return it to her when he got back to the States. This time he was really going to listen to her. He would stop smoking, write up whatever he had, and then head home.

Mystery man’s thoughts: No woman had gotten this close to him before. He knew he had to kill her when she told him she was sure he was up to no good, that she was going to call the police on him. He made a checklist of what might have given him away, and was relieved that the only slip up had been the mark.

Fifty Shades Darker & Fifty Shades Freed have both been filmed back-to-back in Vancouver. Just recently, filming ended at that location. If you’ve had the chance to read the novels, you’ll know why the filming has moved to France! Here are a few glimpses into the set and filming that has happened for the last two adaptations of this erotic-love-story trilogy. Jamie Dornan & Dakota Johnson are filming a scene in the first clip, but we also see one of Ana Steele’s personal bodyguards, Luke Sawyer played by Brant Daugherty. Is anyone else a little mind-blown? Here’s why I say this. Jamie is Christian, we know that and he’s a nice guy! But, with Brant wearing a gray suit, it’s hard not to sigh and think, yup he could’ve pulled off Christian, too! 😉 Am I right? Check out the first clip for yourself & the others. The Fifty Shades Of Grey Screenwriter Kelly Marcel announced that she would not be back to write the sequel of the erotic-trilogy adaptation. Soon after, it was said that the novel trilogy’s author, E. L. James, was interested in filling the spot. Now, we have the official confirmation of who will be the sequel’s screenwriter. He’s someone that E. L. James probably trusts to bring her vision to the big-screen and she knows him well. Niall Leonard, E. L. Tiger Lily: Part 2 picks up where part 1 left off. Lily “Tiger Lily” Salomé finds herself having strong feelings for the successful, handsome and powerful man Jonas Crane. Unfortunately, her ex-fiance still lingers around with an obsessive need to keep his control over Lily and break her down every chance he gets. Author Amélie S. Duncan has stated that this will be a trilogy series and I am excited to continue the story of Lily and Jonas for at least one more novel. I was given the opportunity the read and review a this latest upcoming installment of this enthralling contemporary romance that follows Lily Salomé and the successful business mogul Jonas Crane. Readers will get to enjoy reading this novel from the main character Lily Salomé’s P.O.V.(point of view).

Lily Salomé doesn’t want to trouble anyone with her problems. Her ex-fiance Declan Gilroy has re-entered her life and seems determined to make her life as miserable as possible. She pushes Jonas Crane away because for one: she has fallen in love with the mogul; and two: Declan is breaking her down with his constant dark ways. Lily’s had a hard time trying to get passed her insecurities and become stronger after being in such an unhealthy and abusive relationship with Declan. He tries to keep that control over her even now by using the items that are valuable to the memories she has of her parents who died a few years back. But not everyone is willing to just give up on Lily even though she sometimes feels like giving up on herself.

Lily finds unlikely allies in two people during a time when she is trying hard to get over Jonas Crane. Jonas’s ex-wife Dani and his business friend Ian have been keeping certain information from Jonas about Lily now that she’s pulled away from him. This is certain to cause strain to their relationships. While Ian is willing to help Lily, he doesn’t hide the fact that he has an attraction to her with his constant flirtatious behavior. Then, you have Heiress Melissa Finch who may be more in tuned to the kind of companionship that Jonas seeks. Will Lily and Jonas fall further apart from each other with these new romantic prospects? After all, Jonas Crane has only been wanting an arranged companionship but Lily wants and needs more. With her growing feelings and his stance on not wanting that much of a commitment right now, Lily had to save her heart. But some feelings are hard to ignore no matter how much someone tries to deny that those feelings exist. Lily’s life begins to slowly crumble around her and all she can do is struggle to try hard to not give up and give in. But with Declan always there trying to tear her world apart with secrets of their past, what is Lily to do?

The second novel of the Tiger Lily Series is full of emotional twists and turns. Lily Salomé seems to be at her weakest in this novel after we saw that she was trying her best to be strong after so much turmoil from her life in the past. Will Lily be able to move forward in her life and in love? Will her ex-fiance Declan ever stop harassing her or will things only get worse? How much longer can Lily keep her secrets about Declan from Jonas? Can Jonas Crane ever get passed his need for control and will he ever just admit that he feels more for Lily than he’s allowed himself to show?

This story and series continues to deliver in the hot and steamy, as well as the romantic aspects that make it enticing. We get to learn more about the characters and their flaws as well as what they have to offer. Jonas continues to be a strong, hot alpha-male, and very protective but withdrawn in some ways because he is confused about his strong feelings he continues deny. I recommend this one for your reading pleasure and to continue this wonderful story. I’m looking forward to the final installment of Tiger Lily Series: Part 3. This series is worth reading so check out this incredible series. 🙂

Lily’s thoughts:  This is what was left, and what I needed to get used to- feeling empty. Loneliness was what lured me into accepting Jonas’s offer of companionship in the first place. It had been a chance to spend time with him as a friends with benefits. But in a relatively short period of time, I had fallen for his company, his attention, and all that was a part of his companionship. Still, my falling hadn’t been all my fault. His actions had blurred the distance he’d so wanted to maintain between us. It had left me with a deep longing for more.

Lily’s thoughts:  My heart skipped a beat as I saw the name flash across the screen. Jonas Crane. I read over his message.
Dani asked me to give you some space and I will, but we’re not finished.
A flutter went through my stomach at the thought of seeing Jonas again. In my heart I wanted Jonas not to be finished with me.

Lily’s thoughts and Jonas:  As I met his eyes, our connection sparked, sending a shiver through me. His eyes turned stormy as he scanned me from head to toe. A frown deepened on his face with every step. I casted my eyes down.
“What have you done to yourself, my Tiger Lily?”
I shuddered and closed my eyes. His. I could have wept. All I wished I could be.
“I don’t know what I want to do to you more,” he continued, his voice strained. “Scold or hold you. I’ll decide later.”

Lily’s thoughts:  I turned and looked at Jonas. The pull he had on me flared to life. I wanted every inch of that stubborn, complicated man that was bossing me around, both in and out of the bedroom.
After what I had experienced with Declan, I knew Jonas was motivated by a desire to help, not hurt me. He was my friend, though even that was blurry.
The lines between anger and happiness were blurry, too. I truly had no idea what to do. I wanted him to be mine. I wouldn’t share him.

Lily’s thoughts:  Dani once told me if I let Jonas in, he would move his world for me. And in this moment, I believed her. Holding that thought in my heart, clinging to it as a shield against whatever we were met with next…

My ‘Blogging Reader’s ARC-Review’ for ‘ALL THE RAGE’ by Author Courtney Summers:

This was definitely an intense and gritty read even though it is categorized as a Young Adult Mystery novel because of the topics that are discussed and alluded to in ‘All The Rage.’ This is the first novel I’ve read from Author Courtney Summers and it had some suspenseful moments and was just slightly slower in some aspects which I’ll explain further into my review. Readers will be reading the story through the main female character Romy Grey’s P.O.V(point of view).

Seventeen year old Romy Grey was an average teen who attended high school and lived a typical lifestyle. That was until one night at a weekend party with classmates and people she thought she could trust, something happens that completely changes how she sees herself and how others treat her. She finally got to hang out with the guy she’s been crushing on, Kellan Turner who also happens to be popular and one of the son’s of the town’s Sheriff. No one would dare question or accuse someone like Kellan of anything horrible…and if they dared, it wouldn’t go well for the accuser.

Romy’s father was known as the town drunk but once he was out of the picture, Romy and her mother made a new home life with her mom’s old love. Things are better but what happened at that party still haunts Romy. Other students and people who never used to treat her bad begin to taunt her and make fun of her. No one believes what she believes happened. She buries it inside and hopes to forget it so she can move on. But that has become hard to do when everyone around her including Kellan’s brother Alek and his side-kick Brock are constantly harassing her and insinuating that she’s a liar and trash.

When one unlikely person finally asks Romy about the situation, it spins Romy’s world upside down. And to add insult to injury, she finds herself later that night risking her job and her safety again at a traditional annual party for her class. Drinking, partying and getting wild is expected but blacking out and waking up with horrible words written on her is not how it’s supposed to go. After that same night, the town’s most beautiful and well-liked student Penny goes missing. Could there be something that ties Romy’s horrible experiences to the now missing student?

The storyline had huge potential and in fact pulls you into wanting to see how things will unfold. I was invested into the story but something felt almost lacking but maybe it was because it was a YA story and some things can’t be thoroughly worded to meet that standard. I’m not sure. The characters were interesting but some just “dead-ended” and never really went anywhere like the strange guy Romy calls on the phone and it left me wondering what ever happened with Kellan? I guess it can all just be assumed. Romy concentrated so much on her red lipstick and red nail-polish that I guess she was obsessed over it was something she could control in her life. The story was good and I’m sure people who love a decent little YA thriller will appreciate this. It wasn’t a bad story, not at all but I just felt there was so much potential for it to dig deeper and pull out an even stronger storyline. Either way, it was still enjoyable. Check this one out if you are looking for a YA with a good amount of dark mystery and suspense.

We came out of our mothers aware of this party. No amount of alcohol poisoning or unprotected sex or accident or injury will get in the way of this honorable Grebe tradition, this very important rite of passage.

Romy’s thoughts:  My body speaks to my missing hours, but I don’t understand what it’s saying. I just need the night to come back, that’s all. Just one single night. Remember. Just let me remember. It’s there, inside me, and I only have to remember it.

Romy’s thoughts: The reason is I need him. I need him to get this ghost off me because I still feel her. I still feel her and I want her to stay dead.

Romy’s thoughts: I can outrun the boy in the truck bed and all the other boys he’s made in his likeness since, just because they could, just because no one said they couldn’t…

This is the 3rd installment titled “Only For Us” of a four part novella series by Cristin Harber. This has so far been an amazing novella series to have been given chance to read and review. I’m still hooked.  “Only For Us” is of the New Adult genre and Contemporary Romance story that has followed the main characters Emma and Grayson since their teenaged years into adulthood. This novella is written in the two main character’s P.O.V.’s(point of views), Grayson Ford and Emma Kingsley.

The story continues where it left off when Grayson returns to town and is determined to win the woman he loves back and to be a part of his beautiful two year old daughter Cally’s life. Now with Grayson back in Emma’s life, her family who has been helping the single mother raise their daughter Cally, might have problems with that. As far as most of them are concerned, Grayson got what he wanted from Emma then skipped town without looking back. So now, he has to try to make amends with her family who has been there picking up the pieces of Emma and Cally’s life. The only thing that they don’t know is that Grayson never knew about Cally and always assumed that Emma went off to college and was having a better life without him.

Grayson Ford comes back to town to win Emma back and the family that he didn’t know he left behind with her and Cally. He is determined to fix everything no matter what it costs because his heart belongs to Emma and Cally. When he returns to town he also makes the effort to put an end to his inner self-hatred he’s carried because of his mother’s death. His father has made him constantly feel the burden of it but now he’s ready to also face that past once and for all. With Grayson planning to win back his family with Emma, he sets himself up with a potential new job among the Titan Delta Group which he became aware of through his buddy Parker Black is a part of the Titan Delta Team. His first mission with them is happening locally in the neighboring town to his hometown of Summerland where possible human trafficking may be occurring and they have been hired to catch those involved.

How will Grayson and Emma handle it when Cally finally meets her daddy? Will Emma’s family be able to forgive Grayson for leaving? How will this new Titan job work out for Grayson and how will Emma finally tell Grayson about her new jobs including her job at Emerald’s Gentleman’s Club? This novella continues the great storyline that has been a constant with this amazing novella series. Readers will continue to be captivated by the mesmerizing characters and the wonderful storyline that brings on the emotional enjoyment it has from the start. I highly recommend this novella and the entire series because it is both breathtaking and incredible. Knowing that the fourth and final installment of the Only Series is next leaves me excited and anxious to see how it all plays out in the end for these characters. Heads Up: These novellas each end with a cliff-hanger feel to them but don’t worry. These novellas have been coming out close to each other so the wait is not long and definitely worth it! I adore this! You should absolutely pick up these novellas in anticipation for the fourth and final one. You won’t be disappointed at all. 🙂

Grayson and Emma:  A curious, almost excited smile plays on his full lips, and I try to understand the magnitude of what he might be feeling.
Gray takes a step forward and cups my chin, letting his thumb softly stroke my cheek. “It’ll be okay.” I nod, listening to an excited Cally drag Cherry down the back hall.
“It’ll be okay,” I repeat as if it’s a calming mantra that might save me.

Emma’s thoughts:  He rolls his lips together as though he’s stifling his words, and his gaze is dancing, mesmerized by the pint-sized explosion who’s hugging me and holding a doll. His reaction is… beautiful. I didn’t know a man that sexy, that hard, maybe even that dark and wounded could personify love. But there it is. And it’s amazing. My heart pitter-patters, and my eyes flood, brimming with a happiness that I will remember always.

Emma and Grayson:  “Cally’s amazing, right?”
His perfect face and chiseled jaw tilt toward me, but his fierce green eyes remain on the path our daughter took on her way out. “Ems… she’s perfect.”
I just witnessed a man meet his greatest weakness— and his truest love— and embrace it without thought of complication or fear. He’s always been her father, but now I’m sure she’ll have a daddy.
“Sweet little perfection,” he mumbles.

Grayson and Brock(Titan Delta Team):  Brock’s chair echoes in the war room as he stands. “There’s a job. Local.”
Local? Now that’s interesting. I wouldn’t expect Titan to run an op this close to home. I turn back. “What do you guys have going on around here?”
His jaw works back and forth. “Traffickers working their way up and down the coast.”
“What kind of trafficking?”
“The kind that brings in Titan.” Not great news. That kind of crime is nothing I want near my family. Family…

Grayson to Emma:  “Before I knew how deep I loved you, I knew you were my friend. My… person. The face I was supposed to see every day. The voice I was supposed to hear every night. If there’s one thing that you need to know it’s… Ems, I was made for you.”

Emma and Grayson:  She burrows closer to me on the couch. “I choose you, Gray, like you’ve come home to me. Like I chose you then and want us now. What tore us apart had to have happened for whatever reason, and now I’m in your arms forever.”
Hugging her to me, I’m not sure we can ever get close enough. “I feel like I have it all.”
“Me too.”

My ‘Blogging Reader’s ARC-Review’ for ‘The Truth About Us’:

This is my first time reviewing the work of author Janet Gurtler. The Truth About Us is a captivating and emotional YA novel about trying to find yourself by hiding behind a false lifestyle. Even for a YA genre novel, this read was still very enjoyable and a wonderful coming-of-age story. Readers will get to enjoy this story from the main female character’s P.O.V.(point of views), Jess.

When Jess’s strong and successful mother experienced a horrendous ordeal, it changed not only her mother’s life but also it changed the dynamic of their family. Being told by their father not to speak of it and to basically bury it, left teenaged Jess an emotional mess. She tried to deal with it by throwing herself into parties, getting drunk out of her mind and dating a boy that she really wouldn’t have went for soberly. This change of persona put a huge wedge between her longtime best friend Penny and brought her closer to her party friend Nance. Her life began to spiral out of control until her father had enough. He signed her up to volunteer at a local soup kitchen that was on the other side of town away from the posh and luxurious part of town where Jess and her family lived.

Jess would push her limits and not in a good way. On her way home after hanging out with Nance, she ends up taking a chance by taking a ride from a stranger named Braxton Brooks. He seemed harmless but his passenger friend was the one that catches Jess’s attention. This dark haired, handsome guy, who definitely looked like he had no interest in her was the one that she was attracted to. Too bad he definitely looked to be from “The wrong side of the tracks.” His name was Flynn.

When Jess begins working at the soup kitchen, she hates it. But when she realizes there is more beyond the privileged lifestyle she is accustomed to and learns that everyone has a story, she begins to grow beyond what she could’ve ever expected. Making unlikely friends, she begins to change little by little. Then, Jess comes across the very attractive stranger she never thought she’d see again and her life begins to take a completely different path. Flynn is not everything she assumed he was. He was more. As they get to know each other, their lives begin to evolve into something else. Coming from two different worlds and backgrounds, others around them begin to interfere with their growing friendship because of those differences.

Will their family and friends drive a wedge between Jess and Flynn? Why is Flynn always giving Jess mixed signals? Will Jess be able to fix her mistakes or will she always just be the rich little party girl? And will Jess’s family always be distant from each other and will her mother ever be the same again? This story was beautiful and rich with interesting characters. The Truth About Us flows great and is well-written which makes the story amazingly good. Regardless if you read Young Adult novels, this one can still be enjoyed by those who prefer New Adult novels as well because the story has fascinating qualities. If you’re looking for something nice to read, give this one a chance. It’s worth checking out.

Jess’s thoughts & Flynn’s words:  They don’t go to my school. But they would get me home by curfew. Besides, rapists and murderers don’t give out their names. I won’t lose my phone privileges. I’ll stay out of trouble. A swoop of adrenaline bungee jumps up and down in my gut as I consider my options.
“You’re not actually going to accept a ride from perfect strangers?” Flynn asks.
I glare at him. That’s an even bigger challenge.

Jess’s thoughts:  I wish every day for my mom to be back. The mom I used to know. I don’t blame her for the way she is now; how could I? But still. I miss her.

Jess’s thoughts: My cheeks burn remembering how Penny and I swore we’d be mature teenagers, not girls who cared too much about makeup, clothes, and boys. We swore we’d never do stupid things just to be popular. Like drinking or smoking. One of us was wrong.

Flynn and Jess:  “Maybe you convinced me not to judge a book by its cover.”
“You don’t like my cover?” I ask, trying to keep my voice light. But it sounds husky in my ears, husky and slightly desperate.
“I don’t have to tell you you’re beautiful,” he says.
You don’t? I think. Yes, yes, you do.
“Because you are. But you’re good people too, Jess. Even if you don’t know it yet. I can be completely honest with you. I can be myself. And I really like that. I don’t have that with many people.”
It’s nice, to be seen with fresh eyes that don’t have all sorts of preconceived notions about me. In some ways I feel like he’s looking inside. At the real me. And amazingly, he seems to think I’m okay.

Jess’s thoughts:  I remember what Mom used to say about Dad before she retreated into her shell.
“We don’t always choose the ones we fall for. Sometimes the chemistry chooses us.”
Is that what this is? Chemistry? Because it feels wonderful. And also scares the shit out of me. It’s more real than anything I’ve felt lately. And dangerous. I like it.

Wilf to Jess:  “You’re going to be all right, no matter what you did to land yourself in this place. In some ways, I suspect that my Rhea had a spiritual hand in it. Bringing you here. I’ve no doubt she’s up there, an angel, looking out for me. I think she wanted us to meet. The daughter I never got to have. Or maybe the granddaughter of the daughter I never got to have.”

Jess’s thoughts:  The glow on his face dulls my fear that maybe everyone is right about us. His mom doesn’t approve of me. Stella doesn’t approve. Nance doesn’t approve. But when he smiles, it doesn’t matter what other people say.

My ‘Blogging Reader’s ARC-Review’ for ‘The Virgin Romance Novelist’:

This hilarious contemporary romance by the fantastic author Meghan Quinn titled: The Virgin Romance Novelist is a fun standalone. I’ve read plenty of Meghan’s entertaining novels and I have to say that she never fails to write uniquely-amazing novels for readers to enjoy. She leaves you getting your dose of romance, with emotional peaks and in this one, expect to have a tummy ache from laughing so hard. This standalone is different in some ways because it is filled with sarcastic-humor and sexually driven exploration of the main character who happens to be a virgin that wants to gain some experience. The only problem is that it has become harder to lose her “V-card” than she could have ever imagined. You’ll be reading this novel completely in the main character Rosie Bloom’s P.O.V.(point of view) only but it is well-written that it does not fall short at all.

Rosie Bloom was ready to do something different from the usual cat articles she wrote for her job at Friendly Felines. She decides that she wants to write her first romantic novel with all of the erotic moments that she used to sneak and read from her mother’s old book collection. Having grown up with protective parents who sheltered her from everything including anything sexual, she was shocked when she found out that things were way different than she could ever have imagined when it came to sex and dating. Her two roommates and best friends Delaney and Henry shock her when they tell her how it really is in the real world of sexuality. To their surprise, they find out she still has her “V-card”(virginity) intact. With her best friend’s help, she sets out on a mission to date more and experience her sexuality enough to get the experience she needs to be able to write a great romantic-erotic novel.

As Rosie jumps into the dating world it seems that it is constantly full of crazy adventures, disasters and moments of embarrassing misfortunes. Her best guy friend since freshman year at college, Henry, has always been a womanizer and has never been ashamed of it. His good looks has helped him to be successful in that aspect. Her best female friend Delaney was comfortable with her sexuality and has no shame being expressive and verbal about her sexual prowess that her roommates have occasionally had to hear her share with her boyfriend Derk in the neighboring bedroom. When Henry and Delaney try helping Rosie out to prepare to plunge herself into the dating world, so many things become one hilarious mishap after another. Rosie quickly finds it easy to line up potential men to date and gain experience with. Also, she plans to explore her own sexuality and hopes to eventually lose her virginity so she can eventually be successful at knowing enough first hand to write about in her romantic-erotic novel. The only other problem is that someone else seems to be changing in the process of her exploring her datable potentials.

As Rosie goes on dates, her best friend Henry seems to become more protective of her and starts to act picky about the men she sees as potentials. Rosie has always been sheltered and by living that way for so long, she’s a little dense in some basic aspects when it comes to men and dating. With experience becoming harder and harder to gain without some issues, will she ever be able to gain real experience in sex as well as in romance to be able to complete her novel?

The Virgin Romance Novelist was such a fun, humorous and romantic read that left me enjoying it completely from start to finish. Seriously, this was such a fun read and had so many feel-good moments. The characters Rosie, Delaney and Henry were each enjoyable and had such a believable friendship. The men that Rosie considers dating each have their own characteristics that remind you that dating isn’t always perfect, easy and can sometimes be a funny experience. I do recommend this novel for readers who enjoy an amusing, comical yet romantic read. This one is worth checking out. Get your awesome copy today! 🙂

Rosie’s thoughts:  I watched as Henry carefully studied me with those blue green eyes of his that have spent the last six years studying me and my eccentricities. He was my first ever true friend, and he accepted me for who I was the first day we met: a homeschooled, sheltered, naive girl being thrown into her first day of college.

Rosie’s thoughts:  To keep myself from ending up as a crazy cat lady who doesn’t mind when she eats thirty percent cat hair with each meal, I decided to write a romance novel. I’m the girl who lives in fantasies where love always prevails and a hero is just waiting around the corner to swoop in on his white horse to save you. I forgot about one little speed bump in that plan. I was still a virgin.

Henry and Rosie: “You know I will go swing dancing with you. I am the best partner you will ever have. Remember the time I flipped you over my head and you lost your balance and landed ass first in the punch bowl?”
“How could I forget? My butt stained red for days.”
“I miss swing dance club,” he said with a forlorn voice.
“Funny you say that, because our senior year you ditched me for your late night Friday booty calls, and that was the end of swing dancing for me.”
“Well, I was a dick back then,” he admitted. “If you ever want to go, just ask me.”
“Come on, Henry. You’re too busy on Friday nights to take me swing dancing.”
He genuinely made me look him in the eyes and said, “Rosie, you know I’m never to busy for you.”

Rosie’s thoughts: Ugh, I was that girl. That girl who couldn’t make up her damn mind. That girl in a novel that I wanted to shake uncontrollably, slap some sense into her. I could see the reviews now, God, Rosie is so annoying. Rosie is so wishy-washy. Rosie doesn’t know a good thing when it hits her in the face.

“Him” and Rosie:  “I’m such a dumbass,” he confessed.
“Why?”
“For waiting this long, I should have done this the first day I met you.”

Delaney and Rosie:  “Don’t wait any longer; make it happen.”
“I feel like I’m going to puke.”
“Welcome to the world of love, Rosie. It sucks, it’s nauseating at times, and nerve racking, but the reward is so worth it when you have someone by your side supporting you, loving you, and being your life support. There’s nothing like it.”
