My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ of ‘FACADE’ by author Nyrae Dawn:
‘Facade’ is actually the second book of the ‘Games series’ by author Nyrae Dawn. I’ll admit that I have yet to read the other novels to this series. Don’t call the ‘Book readers police’ on me. 🙂 I rarely ever do this but after reading the plot summary for this story, it just drew me in and I had to read it NOW! 🙂 And that is what I did. I plan to read the rest of this series at a later time of course. I knew it would be okay to do this since the story follows a supportive character from book one instead of focusing on the same main characters.
Now, on with my review for ‘Facade’. I dove into this novel knowing the basic synopsis of the story, which sounded right up my ‘New Adult’ genre alley. There are defining moments and definite tear-jerker moments in this novel. The story follows Delaney and Adrian, who are strangers at first but who soon discover that their paths have crossed due to a tragic circumstance that touched both of their lives deeply. Neither of them were at fault for the tragic event, yet they both seem to carry much burden of the weight from that tragedy on their shoulders because of their own individual ways of dealing with what happened that day.
Delaney loves her family but things took a drastic turn for the worst and nothing with her family was ever the same. Her mother resents her and their father was a liar with so many dark secrets that tore the family apart. No matter how hard she tries to right the wrongs that she didn’t exactly cause, there are moments in the story you hope that Delaney’s caring heart isn’t broken in more ways while she seeks to find forgiveness. Her older brother Maddox moves with Delaney to a town named Brenton in order for her to seek some kind of healing and closure to the pain that lives in their lives now due to their father’s terrible mistake. This story really shows how family can be loving and protective, yet how it can be the reason for heartbreak and pain due to the imperfections of ‘family’.
Then, there is Adrian who lives his life as if he’s one person but deep down inside, lives the real Adrian who is hidden away because of all of the pain, anguish and guilt he carries. No one sees any of that because of the facade he wears day in and day out, while blurring out his sorrows by smoking to numb himself temporarily. After one horrible day that changed him forever, he chooses to live a life that is full of emptiness. When Adrian meets Delaney, they seem to quickly find a strange sense of peace with each other but unfortunately they both are hiding something inside that could destroy the bond they are building. As the reader, you will wonder: Will their solace be destroyed once secrets are shared?
For each of the broken characters in this story, you can’t help but somewhat identify or relate to them one way or another because of how real they seem due to what they each are facing and dealing with. You really get drawn in by the heart wrenching storyline from start to finish. You’re reminded that sometimes you may find comfort and love in the most unexpected places. I highly recommend ‘Facade’ for readers who not only search for a story about love but also about forgiveness, family and surviving tragedy.

MY BLOGGING READER’S STAR SCORE FOR ‘FACADE’ 4 1/2 out of 5 stars:
👏
How I imagined Adrian and Delaney while reading ‘FACADE’!

★★★MEMORABLE QUOTES & LINES FROM ‘FACADE′★★★
Adrian’s thoughts: I just can’t seem to make myself overcome the past. There’s nothing to do but deal with it. And maybe lose myself behind a cloud of smoke or a girl.
Adrian’s thoughts: When I was young, I was the quiet kid who didn’t talk but left his heart on paper. Now she’ll see me as the flirtatious, fucked-up guy with a hidden depth that’s not really there. It’s nothing but an optical illusion.
Delaney’s thoughts: It’s too much, and I have to look away. He’s bleeding because of me. Been bleeding because of my family and he doesn’t know it.
Delaney’s thoughts: Maybe it’s like those ghosts he said he sees in my eyes. We’re bound together by this tragedy and even though he doesn’t know it, he still sees that thread tying us together.
Delaney’s thoughts: I know in his way he wants to use me as a distraction to the pain he’s feeling. For a split second I consider doing the same thing.
Adrian: “real life isn’t made of happily-ever-afters.” Delaney’s thoughts: As Adrian pulls away, I vow to do everything to make a liar out of him.
Delaney: “I feel your heart.” Adrian: “I thought it ran away.” His words break my heart.(Delaney)
Adrian to Delaney: “You know if you go with me, there will be no escaping me anymore? That I’ll make you mine.”
Delaney’s thoughts: I can’t even blame that thread anymore. It’s just… Adrian. The words in his soul and his quiet nobility and the way he smiles. He’s special and I feel it in every part of myself. And once he finds out… I’ll probably lose him. But do I really have him?
Adrian’s thoughts: I don’t like those shadows in her eyes and I wonder if it would be worth it to try again. To go to war with whatever plagues her because at least someone I care about should be happy. Since it won’t be me, I think I’d like it to be her.
Adrian: “You made my heart beat when I thought it was gone. All those things you said I do for you? They’re nothing compared to what you do for me.”
