Book to Movie Adaptation(Remake): LEFT BEHIND. [2014]

Left Behind Movie Remake 4

The upcoming Left Behind film is an adaptation based on the first book of the Best-Selling novel series by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins.  Left Behind had previously been adapted into film and held a theatrical release in 2000 starring Kirk Cameron and directed by Vic Sarin.

It is an end-times story about the rapture which is described as an event where millions of people simply vanish from earth. The “Left Behind” film focuses on specific characters during the time prior to the rapture, during the event, and follows them through the aftermath. This sets up the chain of events that occur in the novels that follow in this riveting series which take us through a seven-year period known as the tribulation.  During the tribulation period, horrible things occur on earth, and people are faced with difficult choices.

The remake of the “Left Behind” film stars: Nicolas Cage, Lea Thompson, Chad Michael Murray, Cassi Thomson, Jordin Sparks, Nicki Whelan and more.  This film is directed by Vic Armstrong.  Left Behind will have a nationwide (U.S.) release on October 3rd and will be found in a theater near you!

Plot Summary: “Left Behind” follows Rayford Steele (Nicolas Cage), who is piloting a commercial airliner just hours after the Rapture when millions of people around the globe simply vanish. Thirty thousand feet over the Atlantic, Rayford is faced with a damaged plane, terrified passengers, and a desperate desire to get back to his family. On the ground, his daughter, Chloe Steele (Cassi Thomson) is among those left behind, forced to navigate a world of madness as she searches for her lost mother and brother. The movie is based on the New York Times bestselling book series of the same name, co-authored by Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye. Based on the Bible and published in 32 different languages, the series has sold more than 65 million copies and is one of the best-selling fiction series of all time. -(Plot source:

The Synopsis for ‘Stepbrother Dearest’ (via: Goodreads) :

You’re not supposed to want the one who torments you.

When my stepbrother, Elec, came to live with us my senior year, I wasn’t prepared for how much of a jerk he’d be.

I hated that he took it out on me because he didn’t want to be here.
I hated that he brought girls from our high school back to his room.
But what I hated the most was the unwanted way my body reacted to him.

At first, I thought all he had going for him were his rock-hard tattooed abs and chiseled face. Then, things started changing between us, and it all came to a head one night.

Just as quickly as he’d come into my life, he was gone back to California.

It had been years since I’d seen Elec.

When tragedy struck our family, I’d have to face him again.

And holy hell, the teenager who made me crazy was now a man that drove me insane.

I had a feeling my heart was about to get broken again.

Stepbrother Dearest is a standalone novel.

My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ after reading ‘STEPBROTHER DEAREST’:

I was very excited to be able to read and review an ARC (early copy) of Penelope Ward’s latest novel “Stepbrother Dearest” after reading the blurb/synopsis for it.  The cover is not too bad either: sexy guy, tattooed and shirtless…can’t ask for anything more. 🙂  The story is written in the main female character Greta Hansen’s P.O.V.(point of view) but you also get a look into the main male character Elec O’Rourke’s P.O.V.(point of view) when he writes his autobiography.  So, it is nice to get to experience the story with two P.O.V.’s in that way.

We first meet Greta Hansen who lives in Boston with her mother Sarah and stepfather Randy.  She is a teenager in high school and an only child.  Her character finds out that her step-dad’s son Elec, will be moving from California to live with them and complete his final year of high school in Boston.  What Greta is expecting is getting the chance to get to know her stepbrother but that isn’t exactly what happens.  Her life will be changed when Elec moves in and begins to torment her.

Elec O’Rourke hasn’t really had much of a loving relationship with his father Randy.  He has lived with his mother Pilar in California and blames his father Randy for his mother’s depression after they separated.  When he must move in with Randy on the other side of the country in Boston, he had made up his mind to make life a living hell for his new step-mom and her teenaged daughter, whom he had never met before.  When he moves in, his plan is in motion but his agenda begins to change.

Stepbrother Dearest has a great mixture of steamy moments, romance, emotional highs and lows.  This novel brings you everything that a Penelope Ward novel usually delivers in the end: satisfaction to the readers.  The story covers Greta and Elec’s lives when they are teens and again when they are adults.  Will Greta ever find out why Elec is determined to cause trouble when he first arrives to Boston?  Is there more to Elec and Randy’s past, causing them to bump heads constantly?  Can time heal all wounds? Who will find romance and who will have to live without?  This is a great story and I do recommend it.  If you’re a fan of Penelope Ward, this is another fantastic story.  Check this one out when it comes out. It’s different but still amazing in the ways a romance novel should be.

How I imagined Elec and Greta while reading ‘STEPBROTHER DEAREST’:

Greta’s thoughts:  I had never felt so out of control of my own body and was silently begging it to stop reacting so intensely toward him. Let’s face it. My body was an imbecile with poor judgement. How could it want something so badly that hated it right back?

Elec and Greta’s date:  “Let’s go. You’re not getting in his car.”-Elec.
“Who the fuck do you think you are, trying to take my date home?”
“I am her home, fucknut.” -Elec.

Greta’s thoughts: …I thought about how ironic it was that this guy who’d done nothing but try to chase me away and intimidate me was the one person in the world I felt like I wanted to protect.

Greta and Elec:  “Are you nervous?”
“I just don’t want to hurt you.” The way he looked at me when he said it made me realize he wasn’t really talking about the physical pain. He didn’t want me getting attached to him.
My chest tightened, and I was pretty sure it was a lie when I said, “You won’t.”
You will, but I want you anyways.

Elec’s thoughts:  Through death there was life. Through hate there was love. “In the end, there was you, and that made it all worth it.”  In the same way that you can easily switch the letters of a word around to see another hidden meaning, such is life. A life can be defined by its hardships or its blessings. It’s all a matter of how you look at it.

Death Dwellers MC Series book 3 - Misbehavior by Kathryn Kelly

The Synopsis and My ‘Blogging Readers Review’ after reading ‘Misbehavior’ (Book #3):

***WARNING: Possible SPOILERS if you haven’t read the previous Novels/Novellas of the Death Dwellers MC Series.***

‘Misbehavior’ is #3 of the ‘Death Dwellers MC Series’ and technically the fifth book of the entire series, including novellas.  Author Kathryn Kelly has not lost her touch and brings to life the biker club that has become a dark and entertaining series that is hard to put down or stop reading.  I have to say, I LOVE the cover on this one! It is absolutely perfect.  This novel is written in the P.O.V.’s(point of views) of Zoann “Puff/Chester/Bitsy”, Matthew “Valentine”, Kendall “Red”, Megan “Meggie”, Christopher “Outlaw” and Lucas “Mortician”.

The story mainly follows the main characters of this novel, Zoann and Matthew “Val” and takes the readers back to when they first met, when Zoann’s life was horribly changed, how Matthew first joined the Death Dwellers MC and brings us to the present day with all of the characters.  Zoann is always moody, mean and angry towards most of the bikers in her big brother’s MC.  There is one guy she can’t seem to hate even though she loathes the lifestyle he leads and that is Matthew “Val” who she first was attracted to before a life changing event in her life.

Matthew “Valentine” was raised to love sex and to never know much else.  He struggled to survive but eventually found his place with the Death Dwellers MC and has been with them since.  His addictions are a hazard and a downfall but they come to a head in this novel.  Val has a difficult time dealing with his addictions, his feelings towards Zoann and the club problems that seem to get harder to deal with.  Can Matthew “Valentine” become more of the man that he needs to be to try to win Zoann over or will he always just simply be the “baby daddy” and nothing more?

This novel also helps readers who’ve been reading this series up to date on the other character’s story-lines, too.  After Meggie lost what would’ve been hers and Christopher “Outlaw’s” second son, after the terrible ordeal with Spoon, she struggles to cope with the loss.  Christopher “Outlaw” also struggles to get a grip on his club and the most important person to him, Meggie and her heartache.  Past secrets surface and the wedge that has kept the distance between Christopher “Outlaw” and his sister Zoann “Bitsy” may finally be put front and center.  Also, we find out about Johnnie “John-Boy’s” relationship with the problematic Kendal “Red” is going.  Let me just add Kendall is the most annoying character in this series and I hope she changes soon. lol!  Then, there is Lucas “Mortician” and Bailey, who was the daughter of fellow biker K.P. who died.  Bailey is expecting a baby with Lucas “Mortician” and Mortician is set on keeping her at a distance.  He can’t seem to shake his feelings towards her no matter how hard he fights them but when another man starts moving in closer to her, will that be his wake up call?

So this is the latest in the Death Dwellers MC novel and all of the answers to those questions can pretty much be answered in the latest novel “Misbehavior”.  I highly recommend this novel and this series because it is truly dark, enticing, emotionally charged and will keep the reader’s attention non-stop.  This series is not for the easily disturbed readers but what can you expect from a biker series.  This is gritty and raw in every way you can expect.  I recommend you check this one out.  I truly enjoyed it and can not wait for the next novel in the “Death Dwellers MC Series.”

Reader Warning: This is a tale of rape, murders, deception, heartache, lies, and infidelity. The road to redemption is a tumultuous struggle where only the strong survive and justice is served…Outlaw-style.  For mature readers only.

How I imagined the characters while reading ‘Misbehavior’ of the Death Dwellers MC Series:

1 collage 1f

Big Joe “Boss” Foy to Matthew:  “If Outlaw tell you to kiss his fucking ass for the rest of your fucking life, you fucking do it.  He’s being a merciful motherfucker.  I don’t know what he sees in you and I don’t give a fuck.  You touch our merchandise, you’re dead, so I suggest you fuck off the drugs.”

Zoann’s thoughts on Matthew:  She was a girl and a virgin to boot and Christopher’s little sister.  To capture his interest, she’d need experience and the ability to have a brief affair with him.  He was a biker and, even though Granddaddy thought most bikers- except Johnnie- were garbage, they fascinated Zoann.  She wanted a man like her brother, badass, beautiful, protective and loyal.

Zoann and Matthew “Val”:  “I want you, but I’m not taking you. Your brother’s my best fucking friend.
He wants more for his little sister than a fucking biker.”
“H-he’s a biker. And any girl who got him would be so lucky.”
“This is too fucking much,” he growled, shoving away from her. “I have to go.”
“Thank you.”
His brows snapped together. “For?”
“For being so loyal to my big brother and respecting him enough to respect me.”
A smile touched his lips and an unreadable gleam lit his eyes.
He brushed a thumb over her bottom lip. “You tempt the fuck out of me.”

Matthew “Val’s” thoughts:  Despite it all, she refused to destroy his baby.  Somewhere, deep down, she saw something good enough in him that she wanted the life he’d helped to create.  He might not have thought himself worthy to pass on his fucked up genes, but, she did.  Somehow, in that moment, with his heart hurting and his head so screwed up, nothing else but Zoann’s decision mattered.

Matthew “Val’s: thoughts:  He loved his prickly, bitchy Puff, but he’d known the sweet, soft girl hidden within her first.  He’d loved that Zoann first.  It didn’t matter, though.  Both the girl she’d been then and the woman she’d become now wanted him. HIM.

Control by Laura Marie Altom

The Synopsis for ‘CONTROL’ (via: Goodreads) :

Laura Marie Altom’s heart-stirring new romance will have you believing in the power of love—and passion—to heal even the most wounded souls.

Never again. Fleeing her hometown to escape an abusive marriage, Ella Patton swears she has surrendered to a man for the last time. But while living under a new name, she meets a kind, handsome stranger who seems different—and will be moving on soon, making Ella reckless enough to break her rules. With a kiss, the stranger opens the door to desires Ella believed she would never know. Then he makes an unexpected proposal.

A dot-com billionaire from humble beginnings, Liam Stone is a man whose past has made him compassionate yet guarded—much like the beautiful, secretive woman he stumbles upon in a remote Southern town. Though he intends only a dalliance, when the time comes to return home to San Francisco, Liam cannot bear the thought of leaving her behind. But when he tries to entice her to join him, he finds the tables turning dizzingly fast. Suddenly a little seduction becomes a huge battle for one thing: control.

My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ after reading ‘CONTROL’ (Shame Series Book #1)’:

‘Control’ is the first novel of the Shame Series by Laura Marie Altom.   I was not familiar with this author when I first received this ARC copy but now I will be looking forward to reading the next novel in this series.  ‘Control’ is written in the two P.O.V.’s(point of views) belonging to the main characters of the story: Ella Patton and Liam Stone.

Ella Patton ran away from an abusive and controlling rich husband, parents who didn’t believe her about the abuse and her identity as Ella.  She transforms herself into a girl named ‘Julie’ who lives struggles to survive on her own with a job serving food.  She has two new friends, Willow and Nathan, who have no idea about who ‘Julie’ really is or the past she ran away from.  Everything was going well for her, that was until he walked in to her world.

Liam Stone needed time away from his demanding and successful billionaire life, thanks to his Zoogle business.  When his jet is down for service, he decides to get a room at a less-than-modest motel in a middle-of-nowhere little town.  When he goes to get a quick bite to eat, he first sees her.  When he sees her again at a local bar later on, they decide to leave and make it a fun night.  There is just one problem, this girl he meets at the bar who says her name is ‘Ella’ obviously has issues and secrets but there is just something about her that he can’t let her go.

When Liam gives her an offer that sounds hard to resist, she hesitates.  She finds out that he isn’t just some ruggedly, handsome, hard-working man, he is a billionaire success.  And Liam, he wants to make her his, through a contract that is.  Liam doesn’t do relationships and Ella/Julie, can’t do them because of her past.  Liam has childhood memories that haunt him even now as an adult, causing him to never want to get married or have a real-emotional connection with any woman.

They are both broken in one way or another but can they give each other a real chance to help fix each other?  Can love grow or will heartbreak be inevitable?  This story takes you on emotional roller coaster because both characters find it hard to handle what they feel for each other and protect themselves because of the past scars.  I do recommend that story and will be ready for the next that follows.  This story ends somewhat on a cliffhanger and I can already see that the next book will probably have the potential to be darker and more emotional based on how this one ends.  Check out ‘Control’ when you are looking for a new book to read.  The conclusion to the cliffhanger for this novel, will be in December and the name to the Shame Series-Book #2 will be ‘Possess.’

How I imagined Ella(Julie) and Liam while reading ‘CONTROL’:

1 collage 1

Ella’s thoughts:  To say that my husband had done a number on me would be the understatement of the century. He’d taken my wide-eyed belief in Happily Ever Afters that had been instilled by a lifetime of Disney and shredded my heart and soul.  Now, there was nothing left.

Liam’s thoughts: He made me miss the girl I used to be.  Ella.  An always smiling beauty queen who hadn’t believed in the devil.  Only now I knew he was real, and no matter the personal cost, I couldn’t afford to have an unguarded soul.

Liam’s thoughts:  I liked that about her- her innocence.  The fact that she probably didn’t even know that she’d turned me down had come as one of the biggest surprises I’d had in a while.  And as such, one of the biggest turn-ons.  I wouldn’t call myself a man-slut, but I never lack for female company.  Funny thing was, that hadn’t always been the case.

Ella’s quote:  “I just need you to be you- the guy who drew me a bath and let me wear his T-shirt and pajama bottoms.  The guy who yelled at me to get out of the cold and who refused to do me on the principle that it wouldn’t be right.  I liked that guy.”

Ella’s thoughts about Ella/Julie:  Ella the Homecoming Queen, the Honor Student, the girl who’d always followed the rules, felt compelled to be a part of this productivity.  Julie, the dead girl, wanted to hide in a corner- preferably, a well-lit corner.

Ella’s thoughts: Outside, a storm had rolled in.  Rain hammered the windows, and the wind and ocean roared.  I worried this deep contentment was me being delusional.  If Liam and I ventured beyond these glass walls, would reality pound us harder than the waves crashing against the shore?
