A small inheritance from his grandfather has given him the funds to open up his tattoo shop, Freefall, and he has started to pull his life together. Aside from trying to keep his best friend, Dray, from killing himself in the fight ring, and his slight obsession with a pin-up model he’s never met, Nix’s life is going smoothly . . . until Scotlyn James, the object of his obsession, walks into his shop.
Ever since a tragic accident killed her family and left her alone in the world, Scotlyn James hasn’t spoken one word. Up until now she didn’t care that she had no way of talking to people. Her awful aunt would never have listened, and Lincoln Hammond the arrogant, selfish man who pulled her from the streets of Los Angeles wouldn’t hear her words if she could speak. My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ of the Novel ‘Freefall’:
This is a story about two people who had tragedy in their pasts. One was a young lady who survived a huge life changing event and the story tells how it truly affected the course of her life in more ways than one. The main characters of ‘Freefall’ are Alexander “Nix” Pierce and Scotlyn James. The story starts off promising by introducing it’s main characters as well as a few interesting supporting characters in the first few chapters of the book like Cassie, Dray, Jimmy “Clutch” and even the shady character, Lincoln Hammond. As the reader, I’m always happy to let you know that this story does in fact have two P.O.V.’s(Point of views) which helps to get a better view of the story itself.
Alexander Pierce, who goes by the nickname “Nix”, is a tattoo artist who was attractive in the almost tall, dark and handsome idea accept with a few tattoos on top of that. After receiving a small inheritance from his grandfather, he was able to afford to open up his own tattoo shop which he named ‘Freefall.’ Alexander hung out with his longtime-best friends, Dray and Clutch. Dray was into the world of underground fights and Clutch was into restoring classic muscle cars and selling them after they were in great condition. Nix grew up with the rep of being a ‘heartbreaker’ but in his young adult years, he didn’t really live his life that way anymore. In fact, It seemed his curious mind always wondered about the beautiful girl in the photo he carried in his wallet. For the past year, he’s been carrying a photo of a young unknown pin-up model, and for some reason he could never throw it away or get over his curiosity about the girl in the photo.
Till one day, after setting an appointment with a man named Hammond over the phone, in walks a quiet young lady with this Hammon guy. She wasn’t just any young lady, she happened to be the girl from the photo in his wallet. She also happened to be the girlfriend of the guy Lincoln Hammond, who seemed made of money with his Porsche and well kept looks. The young girl, comes across as quiet and reserved. Her name is Scotlyn and quickly Nix finds out that her only means of communication is through facial and hand expressions and a small tablet and pen she carries with her at all times. Nix becomes intrigued by the girl he’s just met but who happened to also be the girl he’s wanted to meet from the photo. Scotlyn also became curious about Nix because he was very different from the man she lives with and because he seemed to understand in a way that Lincoln never had. Scotlyn lost her voice after the tragic accident that took her entire families’ lives, she lived on the streets till Lincoln Hammond came and saved her from that life. Unfortunately, Lincoln started off as somewhat caring towards Scotlyn and eventually made her feel more like his possession than a girlfriend.
The story was good but it left me with mixed feelings. Don’t get me wrong, it’s an interestingly good story and the characters were likeable and dis-likable for those that needed to be, but it did seem to speed up in sections, diffused situations too quickly at times and there were a few moments that seemed a little vague within the story. If you prefer a simple story that is still enjoyable with the premise of two people falling for each other while dealing with issues and a controlling and possessive boyfriend, then I recommend ‘Freefall’ for you. On another note, it did leave me interested in some of the supporting characters of the story like Dray and Clutch so I am happy to say that this series has a second book that recently was released. I may give it a chance and read it soon. It’s titled “Clutch”. 🙂

★★★MEMORABLE QUOTES & LINES FROM ‘FREEFALL’★★★
Nix’s thoughts: Dray, Jimmy, or Clutch as we called him, and I had been best friends since high school. Dray had left without his diploma, but Clutch and I had somehow managed to snag ours. With the crazy shit we’d pulled in those days, it amazed me that we’d all survived our teens.
Nix’s thoughts: My life had been in freefall until I opened the doors to my tattoo shop. It was easy to name the place.
Scotlyn’s thoughts: At one time, I’d looked at him as my savior, my only true friend, but slowly his arrogance, his cruelty, and his sense of entitlement had pushed away any feelings I’d had for him.
Scotlyn’s thoughts: I knew him well enough to know that covering my scar with a tattoo had more to do with him finding it hideous than covering it to help me forget.
Nix’s thoughts: She looked as if someone had painted her. Only an artist could come up with an image as amazing as the girl in front of me.
Scotlyn’s thoughts: And, for the first time ever, I really missed my voice. Up until now, I hadn’t had much to say. My inner sorrow and rage had sucked all my words into my heart, and I’d kept them captive there because there had been no one of worth to tell them to.
Scotlyn and Nix texting: “I’m tired of being lost.”-Scotlyn
“You were never lost. You were just waiting for me to find you.”-Nix.
Scotlyn: “Nix, are you sure you won’t get tired of my silence?”-Scotlyn.
Nix: “What silence? I hear every word you write, every word you speak with your incredible face as if you’d spoken the words aloud. You were meant to be with me, Scotlyn. Not him.”-Nix.
