The book ‘Maybe This Time’ is the first of the ‘Maybe Series’ by author Chantal Fernando. If you have a thing for the Alpha-male, bad-boy book-boyfriends, then this book will be to your liking. There is not just one or two to pine and swoon over, there are many. And the good thing about these swoon-worthy Alpha-males is that they are all attractive men and very protective. With this story you meet Summer Kane who moves in with her younger brother Xander Kane who she had never met in person before. ‘Maybe This Time’ is written with two P.O.V.’s(Point of views) but mostly in Summer’s view, with a little bit of Reid’s view. Who is Reid, you ask?

Reid Knox is friends with Xander Kane, Summer Kane’s brother. Reid has an identical twin brother named Ryan who runs a bar with him. Reid is a tall blonde, with muscles in all the right places, sexy, with blue eyes and a scar that just adds to his mystery and edge. Did I mention sexy? He also comes across as a mysterious, frustrating, temperamental, protective and has all of the qualities of a true Alpha-male. Right away, Reid seems to be the broodiest of all of Xander’s friends when Summer first meets him. And right away, they don’t get along. At first…

Summer Kane is caring but she also has an upfront personality that keeps her from being completely drowned out or stepped on by others. She is beautiful with her dark hair and dark eyes and they never fail to let her know how beautiful they think she is. She had never met her younger half-brother Xander, until moving in with him to get to know him. Summer and Xander share the same father but have different mothers. Summer’s always felt a disconnect with her father Jack because he was usually absent from her life except for the once a year visits on her birthday. Her mother had always told her that her father and brother Xander were losers and criminals. But when Summer decides to move in with Xander at 19, she finds out if her mom was right or wrong about the men who are the family she is just about to get to really know. There is one thing Summer didn’t expect, and that was meeting the other men who consider her father Jack and her brother Xander their family too.

Let’s discuss the men in the story: ALL of them have Alpha-Male tendencies so be ready for that!:) They protect ‘their own’ and anyone that is family to Jack and Xander, is included. Which means Summer will have many hot men looking out for her. Lucky girl! Reid, Ryan, Dash, Tag, her father Jack and brother Xander are all hot and attractive men who like to put time in at the gym. The reason for so much gym time is because of the secret world they are a part of and because it keeps the ladies around.

‘Maybe This Time’ invites you to the underground world of organized fights (MMA style) and you’ll also find that there are some mysterious women who see Summer’s relationships with these bad-boys as a threat. Secrets and lies will be told and eventually revealed. Will they all be the same after truths are told? Will Summer be able to handle her new life and family? Read the story to find out. We recommend this book for those who enjoy stories with entertaining drama, Alpha-male galore, mystery and unexpected romances and bonds.

Summer’s thoughts: I’d wanted to get to know him my whole life, and when he rang me, telling me that if I didn’t get here he was gonna drive up there to get me himself, I decided it was time. Time to break free.

Summer’s thoughts: My whole life my mother has been telling me my brother is a low life. A thug, a criminal, a waste of space. I’ve heard it all. She tried her best to turn me against Xander and my father, tried to instil it into me from the beginning.

Reid’s thoughts: Jack’s daughter is hot. No, she’s beautiful. Of course she’s fucking beautiful. Jack’s told us we need to treat her like she’s family. Protect her.

Reid: “You’re gonna be trouble, I can tell,” he mutters under his breath.
Summer: “Me? I keep to myself, how can I be trouble?”
Reid: His lip quirks into a crooked smile. “We’ll see.”

Reid’s thoughts: Summer seems like the romance kind. The kind of woman who would try to change a man like me. I’m not changing for a pretty face. No matter how stunningly beautiful that face is. Summer Kane isn’t for me.

Reid to Summer: “I have a lot of shit going on in my life right now. I’m not in a good place.
That doesn’t mean I don’t… care about you.”

Summer: “Are you going to kiss me?” I whisper, arrested in his blue gaze.
Reid: “I don’t think that’s a good idea,” he whispers back, his eyes dropping to my mouth.
Summer: “Good ideas are overrated,” I say breathily. I lick my lips, and his breath hitches.

Reid to Summer: “I’m not good enough for you. I know it and you know it. But that doesn’t stop me from wanting you. Just being near you… You bring me peace, beauty.”

Summer’s thoughts: I can’t let my guard down around this man. He has the power to break me,
if I give it to him. I’m already in over my head.

Reid to Summer: “I’m done fighting myself. I want you so bad Summer. You’re mine,
I’ve know it since the moment I laid my eyes on you.”

Reid to Summer: “I’ll never hurt you intentionally, Summer. I just need to know
you aren’t gonna run. You can’t run.”
