The Synopsis:

Tristan Lopez is loyal to his brothers. He doesn’t really have a choice, born into a gang that has a chokehold on every kid that roams its streets. He gave his life to them willingly, knowing if he did then one day this kingdom, led by boys drunk with power and ruled by fear, would all be his.

He was loyal through it all. Loyal when prison took his dad away. Loyal when his face was touched by the cold metal of the rival gang’s gun. Loyal even though his mom begged him to run the moment she returned home from rehab.

He thought about becoming someone else. It was hard not to crave the life of a regular 17-year-old. It’s the only reason he stayed in school—to pretend. But he always fell back in line.

Loyal.

Riley Rojas didn’t belong in Tristan’s real world. She should have only been part of the fantasy, one of the many faces he got to pretend with amidst rows of metal chairs and desks and whiteboards with assignments. But there she was, moving boxes from the back of an old pick-up into a house Tristan had shot up on a dare with his friends only a few months before.

Tall enough to look him in the eyes and strong enough to fill his shadow, Riley took up space on his streets, her loud mouth fearless in the face of the gang leaders who terrified everyone else. She pushed Tristan around on the hard court, and she balled better than his friends—better than him sometimes. She challenged him. She needed him. He liked it. And when her pale blue eyes stared into his, he quit wanting to pretend.

He couldn’t ask her to leave because she’d only dig her heels in deeper. He couldn’t ask because he didn’t want her to go. She was blurring his lines. She was testing his loyalty.

He was falling in love.

My ‘Blogging Reader’s ARC-Review’ after reading ‘CRY BABY’ by Ginger Scott:

“Cry Baby” is the latest novel by author Ginger Scott. This story takes readers on a journey through the rougher “part of town” while letting us know things aren’t always what they seem. Even though the main male character, Tristan, is in a gang, he does not fit the stereotype of what a violent, heartless gangerbanger would be. Cry Baby offers emotional moments and a tragically beautiful story-line where you will hope ends right for these characters. But it’s not always the case. “Cry Baby” is written from the two P.O.V.’s (point of views) from Tristan Lopez and Riley Rojas.

Tristan Lopez has been a member of a gang in his neighborhood since he was about ten. Coming from the neighborhood he was born into, there wasn’t much choice. It was either the gang or possibly a short life. Dub Lewis, the leader of the gang, gave Tristan the nickname “Cry Baby” when he took him under his wing. Tristan’s dad was best friends with Dub and co-founder of the “Fifty-seven” gang, but he ended up getting locked up thanks to his bad choices and loyalty to gang life. The story continues when Tristan is seventeen and he is completely entrenched into the gang life with nothing else but the twisted sense of loyalty to the dangerous life guiding him.

Riley Rojas is new to the neighborhood. Her and her single father move in, but Riley is left with the responsibility of moving things in on her own since her dad has to work and her mom is gone. She comes across a guy walking by who looks to be around her same age. She asks him for help to move some of the heavier items on the back of her old pick up truck. His name is Tristan. He hesitantly helps her move the stuff, but that’s as far as the “Welcome to the neighborhood” goes.

Once they find themselves at the neighborhood basketball court, all bets are off. Tristan returns to his reality and Riley learns quick that his reality does not include welcoming the new girl who he thinks doesn’t belong there. Tristan must either choose to solely follow down his dark and destructive path or choose to take on a new responsibility at school. He finds himself struggling to keep up his loyalty to the gang and that could put him in danger. His best friend has yet to be accepted, and unfortunately, Tristan finds himself struggling to keep his best friend safe as things go from bad to worse.

If Tristan’s loyalty comes into question, this could mean trouble. Where will his loyalty lie: with his gang and Dubs, or to his new school responsibility that could help both him and and Riley? As the reader, you’ll want to root for Riley and Tristan as individuals, facing the hardest parts of their lives, but also you’ll root for their friendship or whatever they may share. I highly recommend this for those who can enjoy a young adult novel that gives you imperfect characters who are perfect together. Add this to your list and grab your copy. It’s worth the read! ❤

The Synopsis:

My mom always said it was just something about the way he moved.

The same swagger Archie Valentine wore in the ring when he took his opponents down followed him like a halo everywhere he went. But make no mistake about it—he was no angel. He was like a drug. My mother was his addict.

I never understood it…how love could make you blind and convince you to drink the poison. Not until I met Memphis Delaney.

At first, it was the familiar form. He’s a fighter, built like a god from the past, the kind of man the universe doesn’t make anymore. His eyes hide a story, and every time I’m in his presence I want to keep reading him until I get to the end. And then…there’s the way he moves. His boxing is violent but beautiful, and his body is a seductive weapon. When he’s in the ring, he wears the stare of a man committed to the battle until his very last breath.

He could end me; turn me into her. Too much of him will leave me as a shadow, and I’ve lost so much of myself already.

But I have discipline. It came the hard way. Lessons learned, scars left behind, and trust stripped away from life.

I will breathe his air, but I won’t fall for a man like him. The only boxer who’s ever going to break my heart is the one who gave me my name.

______

My ‘Blogging Reader’s ARC-Review’ after reading ‘MEMPHIS’ by Ginger Scott:

“Memphis” is an exciting new book by the amazing author Ginger Scott. In this story, there’s definitely so much more to a name. This is more than just a boxing story, it’s a story about life and learning to find hope in the midst of everything meant to tear you down. “Memphis” is written from the two P.O.V.’s (point of views) from Olivia “Liv” Valentine and Memphis.

In the boxing world, the name Valentine inspired many, intimidated other boxers but there was one person who knew the truth behind the name. She never admired the name or the people associated with it, her parents. Especially since everything the outside world knew about the Valentine’s was all make believe. For Liv Valentine, her childhood was lonely and her parents were dysfunctional in their own ways.

Olivia “Liv” Valentine has a mother who roped in Liv’s father when he had a rising and incredible boxing career. The loving and protective father he conveyed toward outsiders was not how Liv remembered it. When she’s forced to return home to the place she fled as soon as she was old enough to do so, she must face her past, the truth of her present, and a questionable future. But what she did not expect was Memphis.

An up-and-coming boxer who simply goes by the name of Memphis, trains at Archie Valentine’s gym under the watchful eye of Liv’s Uncle Leo. He seems to have the heart and drive to go far. Liv’s mom and uncle can both see it and are waiting to cash in on it. But Liv slowly begins to see that there’s more to the man with the heart for boxing. After being burned in her last relationship and knowing the history between her parents, she tries hard to stay away from Memphis.

Can Liv stay away from Memphis or is she destined to follow the destructive footsteps of her cold mother and her ex-boxer father? How will Liv deal with the painful truths about how ruthless her family truly may be? Will Memphis ever find out more about his past? This novel is an incredible story about endurance, overcoming difficult challenges and finding hope when everything around you is fighting hard to destroy it for you. Liv and Memphis have so much that could tear them apart but once you learn about their characters, you can’t help but root for them till the final bell rings. I highly recommend this impressive story simply titled “Memphis.” Grab your copy today! ❤

The Synopsis:

They say everyone’s a superhero to someone. I’m not sure who I’m supposed to save, but I know who saved me.

We were kids. His name was Christopher. And up until the day he pulled me from death’s grip, he was nothing more than a boy I felt sorry for. In a blink of an eye, he became the only person who made me feel safe.

And then he disappeared.

Now I’m seventeen. I’m not a kid anymore. I haven’t been for years. While death didn’t take me that day, the things that happened left me with scars—the kind that robbed me of everything I once loved and drove me into darkness. But more than anything else, that day—and every day since—has taken away my desire to dream.

I wasn’t going to have hope. I wouldn’t let myself wish. Those things—they weren’t for girls like me. That’s what I believed…until the new boy.

He’s nothing like the old boy. He’s taller and older. His hair is longer, and his body is lean—strong and ready for anything. I don’t feel sorry for him. And sometimes, I hate him. He challenges me. From the moment I first saw him standing there on the baseball field, he pushed me—his eyes constantly questioning, doubting…daring. Still, something about him—it feels…familiar.

He says his name is Wes. But I can’t help but feel like he’s someone else. Someone from my past. Someone who’s come back to save me.

This time, though, he’s too late. Josselyn Winters, the girl he once knew, is gone. I am the threat; I am my worst enemy. And he can’t save me from myself.

______

My ‘Blogging Reader’s ARC-Review’ after reading ‘A BOY LIKE YOU’ by Ginger Scott:

A Boy Like You is the latest novel by the amazing author Ginger Scott. Ginger said that this novel was a little different than her previous work and I have to say she has struck gold with this one. Once I completed reading this, one thought came to mind: Mind blown! This novel is a part of the Young Adult genre and is a Contemporary Romance but honestly, this story goes beyond those general genres with its amazing delivery. A Boy Like You is written from the main character’s P.O.V.(Point of view), Josselyn “Joss” Winters.

Josselyn Winters lived a normal childhood full of fun memories with her best friend Taryn. It started off as a normal day hosting fun races with her friends Taryn and Kyle, their fellow classmates, and even the weird-quiet kid Christopher. Her world of normal was all shattered one day when she hears her parents arguing in their room. It rips Josselyn’s world apart. When a terrible ordeal puts Josselyn in danger, an unexpected hero rescues her from what could have become a tragedy. But as quickly as he becomes her safety he just as quickly disappears.

Josselyn, now 17, isn’t the same girl she was 8 years ago. She’s a great shortstop softball player and tends to make risky choices from time to time. She has a broken and terrible relationship with her father. She meets some guys at the nearby baseball field with her best friend Taryn and it ends up being a fun meet up. Joss and Taryn’s interests are piqued when they find out that the three guys will be attending their school this year. One boy in particular draws Josselyn’s interest the most. He’s quiet, confident, and Josselyn can’t help her attraction to this new enigma named Wes Stokes.

For Joss, there’s something very intriguing about the new guy Wes. And there is something strangely familiar about him as she gets to know him better. He reminds her of someone she used to know a long time ago. While Joss tends to make dangerous and risky choices, Wes quickly tries to get her to stop making so many risky choices but Joss is stubborn. Even so, Wes has a way of getting Joss to think twice. As Joss and Wes grow closer, she can’t help but notice and begin to question strange occurrences when it comes to Wes. After something happens flipping all of their lives upside down and shattering their normal existences, where will this lead their lives? Will Josselyn be able handle all of these overwhelming changes?

As a reviewer who’s always adored Ginger Scott’s great stories, I have to say that this one really sent me on an extremely intense and emotional journey. I was overwhelmed, consumed, and completely captured by this riveting novel and the fierce and love-able characters. Just when the reader thinks they’ve reached their HEA, you realize there is so much more that remains in Joss and Wes’s story. I absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, highly recommend this novel wholeheartedly. Please note, this is not the end of Joss and Wes’s story, so be ready for more in the Summer of 2017!! You will definitely not be disappointed. Yes, there is a cliffhanger but trust me, it’s worth it! Please check this one out today! LOVED the heck out of this! One of my new favorites, by far! ❤

MEMORABLE QUOTES & LINES FROM ‘A BOY LIKE YOU’

Josselyn’s thoughts:  When I was younger, I would fall asleep imagining him holding me, tugging my blanket tightly around my body to feel safe -the way I felt in his arms, in the only real hug I’d ever had. I haven’t done that in years…until last night.

Josselyn’s thoughts on Wes:  His eyes stay on me for a few more seconds, and I dive into them, finding the familiar. I don’t even care if it’s make believe at this point. I’m overcome with his strength and the feel of his embrace, and I do something that I regret the moment it starts.
I cry.

Wes and Joss:  “I love the way you see me. I do,” he says, his breath held until the last second when he painfully exhales, and his shoulders fall along with his hand from my face. “You make me want to live up to your expectations. I’m afraid I’ll disappoint them, thought.”
“I don’t have any expectations. Wes. I learned about disappointment a long time ago. I just wanted you to know I appreciate what you did. that’s all,” I say.

The Synopsis:

Fractions of seconds can do lots of damage. One decision can ruin lives. A blink can be tragic. And loving a Hollister…can hurt like hell.

I would know.

They say the average person can hold their breath under water for two full minutes when pushed to the extremes. Will Hollister has been holding his for years. The oldest of two elite swimming brothers, Will was always a dominant force in the water. But in life, he preferred to let his younger brother Evan be the one to shine.

Evan got the girl, and Will…he got to bury all of the secrets. A brother’s burden, the weight of it all nearly left him to drown.

The daughter of two Olympians, my path was set the day my fingertips first touched water. My future was as crystal clear as the lane I dominated in the pool—swim hard, win big, love a Hollister.

My life with Evan burned bright. He gave me arms to come home to, and a smile that fooled the world into believing everything was perfect. But it was Will who pushed me. Will…who really knew me.

And when all of the pieces fell, it was Will who started to pick them up.

In the end, the only thing that matters are those few precious seconds—and what we decide to do while we still have them in our grasp.

______

My ‘Blogging Reader’s ARC-Review’ after reading ‘HOLD MY BREATH’ by Ginger Scott:

This amazing new stand-alone novel “Hold My Breath” by author Ginger Scott is something to definitely read next. Author Ginger Scott is one of my favorites because she is awesome at blending a sports related aspect into an intriguing romantic story. “Hold My Breath” is written from the two main characters’ P.O.V.’s(point of views) which are Will Hollister and Maddy Woodsen.

Will Hollister is a swimmer, it’s what he was raised to know and what he was always good at. He is set to train, compete and to eventually follow his dream of becoming a professional swimmer. He’s been carrying a guilt inside that he put there himself due to the life changing events that he, himself, barely survived. His brother, Evan Hollister, have always shared the love of swimming growing up and gaining praise for their talents, while carrying similar dreams. There’s one person that Will and Evan have a long history with as well. She’s someone they grew up with, trained with, that seemed to bond with them both but Evan seemed to win her over. She’s now, also the one girl that makes Will feel things that he doesn’t think he should be allowed to feel. Her name is Maddy Woodsen.

Maddy Woodsen grew up around swimmers all of her life, which pretty much sealed it for her to be a talented swimmer as well. The childhood friendship and competitiveness she developed between herself and the Hollister brothers, lasted for years. That was, until tragedy changed everything. Now, that the Hollister family dynamic has changed completely, and Will Hollister is due to return after four years away, how will Maddy feel seeing him after everything again? Can Maddy deal with seeing Will again after so long or will he bring her pain?

Not only do these two have to learn to work and train near each other again, but Will may have some secrets that he’s not ready to share right off. What are Will’s secrets? Why does he travel to Indianapolis constantly? When Maddy finds out the truth, how will she handle it? This story will take you on a journey of heartbreak, a growing bond, and the struggle to gain a triumph after tragedy. Life deals challenges to Will, and Maddy may be the only one who can truly help him, if he ever is willing to let her in. I recommend this read for those who can appreciate a wonderful story about life, love, and living with hard choices. This was an enjoyable and riveting novel that really will pull at your heart-strings for multiple reason. It’s truly worth checking out as your next read! ❤
