The Synopsis for ‘A Father’s Fight’:

Life changes in the span of a heartbeat. One, tiny heartbeat.

Blake and Layla have lived through disappointment and regret, only finally finding relief with the powerful love they have for each other. A love they intend to fight to keep.

They’ve had to forgive each other, but can they truly move forward without facing the pain of the past?

Layla’s been avoiding the phone calls. Nine months pregnant and exhausted, she doesn’t want the complication. But she can’t run from the truth. Whoever’s calling was there eighteen years ago. Unlike her, he remembers the night that changed the course of her life, and he’s ready to talk.

Blake’s preoccupied with an email, a few simple sentences sent through cyberspace that have the capability to rob him of his sanity, his freedom, and the people he loves most in the world. When he’s called home for a mysterious reason, leaving Layla isn’t ideal, but hope for reconciliation combined with his brother’s secrecy ignites a curiosity he refuses to ignore.

Putting the pain behind them is no longer an option.

To get the answers they need, they must face the past and open up old wounds that threaten to bleed them dry.

My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ after reading ‘A Father’s Fight’ (Fighting Series – Book #5):

***WARNING: Possible SPOILERS if you haven’t read the previous Novels of the Fighting Series.***

“A Father’s Fight” is the fifth of the Fighting Series from J. B. Salsbury and it helps readers get to know Layla and Blake from book #2 so much more.  This series has yet to let me down and constantly makes my anticipation high as I read from page to page. The characters continue to be intriguing and there is so many fulfilling moments within this book and series.  In A Father’s Fight we are given the story in the two main character’s P.O.V.’s(point of views) which are Blake Daniels and Layla Moorehead.

Readers will get the chance to learn more about Layla Moorehead’s past and the questionable night that her daughter Axelle was conceived. Layla used to be confident and comfortable in the individual she was in high school but one night changed so much about that. She had a long time crush on a bad boy named Trip Miller but on the night she was going to finally go talk to him she got distracted by Stewart.  Now fast forward to the present day in the story, Layla is in love, engaged and pregnant. She has Blake Daniels who is loving and protective of his fiance who is pregnant with their first child together and his new teenaged daughter Axelle who he adores. When strange, anonymous phone calls begin, she feels that secrets of the past may try to threaten the happiness she has just started to enjoy.

Blake “The Snake” Daniels has been trying to get back to training and getting things back in order after everything that went down with his fiance’s ex Stewart who put him in jail for a bit. Blake considers his new family with Layla, the baby and Axelle his priority. When a family member shows up one day with a request that seems strange, Blake worries that there may be a catch to it. He’s left trying to decide how to handle facing his past head on or leave it alone. On top of that he’s been keeping a little issue from Layla that he’s discovered recently. Someone has been digging into Layla and Axelle’s information and he will do whatever it takes to keep the most important women in his life safe.

This story was full of answers about both Layla and Blake’s pasts as well as conclusions to issues that have effected them both greatly. Will Layla find out who is calling and texting her before things get out of hand? What will Blake do in order to protect those he loves most? What will surface from the past and will it change their lives completely? A Father’s Fight was an amazing read, with captivating characters and a storyline that will grasp you till the very end. Anyone who’s read about Layla and Blake in Book #2 of this series knows they both deserve a HEA! All I can say is I LOVED what happens at this point in their story! This is a must read. I highly recommend it. Check this one out as soon as it’s out readers! 🙂

How I imagined the characters while reading ‘A FATHER’S FIGHT’:

Teaser 1Teaser 2Teaser 3

Layla’s thoughts:  I see a hint of black leather and a gasp falls from my lips. He’s here. My heart kicks double-time, breath speeds up, and goose bumps skate down my arms. Trip.

Blake’s thoughts:  Calm down. Don’t lose your shit. The email is not a threat, at least, not yet. My hands ball into fists, gripping the inside of my jean pockets, one crushing the email, as I watch the sun peek up over the distant hills.

Blake to Layla: ‘If you want peace, prepare for war.’ Remember? I was keeping my finger on the pulse just in case, and thank God I was.” He cups my face, forcing my eyes to lock with his. “Whatever happens, we’ll be ready.”

Layla’s thoughts:  This is where I want to be, where I want to stay. Far away from the memories with a future filled with new memories to make. I refuse to live my life in fear, afraid to turn every corner because there could be some sliver of my past waiting to explode in my face.

Blake’s thoughts:  Amazing how quick life can change. There are periods where we soar and some where we plummet, but as long as we hold fast to what matters, fight for the things that count, we die happy knowing we did our best to battle for what matters most.

Blake to Layla:  “Your choices were taken from you, Mouse. I want you to have them back. You want to wear white; you fucking do it and own it.  Throw a big fat middle finger to the past, and take control of your future.”

Layla and Blake:  This kind of love isn’t a fairy tale meant for dreamers or stuck in the pages of books. It’s real, all-consuming, and soul deep, and now, here, lying in the arms of my husband, I’ve never felt more convinced. “You’re my true love. My first and only true love, Blake.”
“And you’re mine.” He brings my hand to his lips and slides soft kisses against my skin. “First… and last.”
