My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ after reading ‘DESERTION’ (Knights Rebels MC Series book #3):
***WARNING: Possible SPOILERS if you haven’t read the previous Novels of the Knights Rebels MC Series.***
The third installment in the Knights Rebels MC Series titled “Desertion” by Author River Savage continues to follow the world revolving the club’s characters and the ladies in their lives. This novel focuses on Jesse and “Nurse Bell”, who ran into each other at the hospital earlier through the series. Desertion is written in the two main character’s P.O.V.’s(point of views), Jesse Carter and Bell Johnson.
Jesse Carter is the Knights Rebels MC brother who is always upbeat, pulls women with just a smile, and keeps things only surface-deep. This is because behind that sexy smile, alluring personality and tough exterior, he hides dark secrets that have slowly been eating away at him. Not even his MC brothers know much about it. He joined the Marines and survived but not without internal scars and wounds that aren’t visible with the eye. His relationship with his father has always been a painful one because of the controlling and abusive ways that his father raised Jesse and his brothers, Jackson and Jay. He’s never been able to truly get past his childhood scars and dark memories. Once he joined the Marines under the pressure from his father, a former Marine, he made close bonds and survived close calls. But with those close calls he always walked away with more scars and wounds that still haunt him at night. When he meets “Nurse Bell”, he notices how beautiful she is, how she doesn’t react to him like most girls do, and she seems innocent, which just makes Jesse curious about Bell so much more.
Bell Johnson works long days and nights as a nurse and keeps her life safe and simple. She does this mostly to make sure not to stress her parents out or to cause them worry. When her sister Paige disappeared, when they were only teenagers at the time, destroyed their family. Her parents now worry so much for Bell and her younger sister Ava after their sister never made it back home. Bell at 23 now, has decided to continue to live in her parents home and under their rules because she herself had been drastically effected by Paige’s disappearance as well. Life seemed to flow and Bell lived her life as she had been doing for the past years, with only worrying about pleasing her parents. That was true until biker flirt Jesse came around and really started to notice her more than she could ever have imaged on a girl’s night out. She knew him vaguely but he was someone that was so hard to ignore. And the attraction was definitely something that was strong. Bell had no idea what was to come.
What happened to Paige? Will Bell’s determination ever lead to answers about her sister Paige’s disappearance? Will Jesse ever get Bell to give him a chance or is he destined to continue his life as a shallow womanizer? Will Jesse ever share about his dark secrets and nightmares? “Desertion” is definitely my favorite of this series! Don’t get me wrong, I love each novel of this series so far but this one was deep, erotic, emotional, and mind-blowing in so many ways. I love Jesse! He is one of my favorite biker-book-boyfriends. ❤ He was a Marine, firefighter and biker… what more do you need? He has a heart of gold when he’s not trying to hide it under his battle wounds and past scars. And he’s absolutely sexy as heck, so that is a plus too. Bell is innocent because of the sheltered life she’s allowed herself to live in some ways, mostly because of what happened to Paige. This novel is deep and dark, gritty and amazing. I truly recommend this novel and this series. So worth checking out! Pick up your copy as soon as you can and add it to your “Must Read” list! Such an awesome story. I’m looking forward to reading the 4th novel of this series “Infatuation” next. Hoping it’s Paige’s story…we’ll see. Either way, I know it will be a good one, too! 🙂

Bell’s thoughts: I can’t control that one of my sisters is missing, taken from us without a trace, and in turn, my mother keeps me on a tight leash. Nor can I explain how I allow it all to happen. When it comes to my family, I can’t say no or bring them disappointment, because if I do, I’ll only bring more pain. To everyone involved.
Jesse’s thoughts: I joined the Marines. I went to war and I served my country. At first, it wasn’t what I really wanted, but like everything I’ve ever done, I gave it my all. I fought for my country and for the lives lost, but in the process, I lost a little of myself. It was my decision to serve, but it hasn’t stopped me from letting the anger eat at me. If I hadn’t let my father’s words push me, maybe I wouldn’t be here.
Bell’s thought: He looks back, his eyes pure seduction, dripped in mischief. I hold on to them, wondering what it means. I was right when I said this man is a puzzle. One minute, It’s like I’m looking into the eyes of a man falling apart, fighting demons, and the next, he’s playing with me. If only I knew which one was the real Jesse Carter.
Jesse and Bell: “Even just you looking at me now, you have no idea what you’re doing to me. The need to consume you is so strong, but I know I can’t do it. It’s like I’m waging a war inside me. My head knows it’s a bad idea, but no matter how hard I try to stay away, my body craves you.”
His words do things to me I never knew possible.
Jesse and Bell: “I don’t know what to do with you, Bell.” He pulls back and rests his forehead to mine. “I feel like something is happening and I don’t understand it,” he confesses. Again, I get the sincere Jesse.
“I’m not doing anything special, Jesse.”
“But you are, don’t you see? My whole club can see.”
“See what?” I ask, at a loss.
“See that you make me want to be different. You make me need you,” he whispers, and I understand his fight. He just doesn’t realize that he doesn’t have to fight it. It’s not meant to be hard.
