There has been a flurry of rumors and confirmed talk about upcoming films expected to either be released in 2015 or to begin filming sometime during 2015.  Some are said to be remakes/reboots of the original movie or cartoon while others are listed as continuations from the originals. I gathered a group of the remakes/reboots and long awaited sequels that may be hitting the big screen as early as next year. REBOOTS/REMAKES AND SEQUELS COMING SOON:

JURASSIC WORLD

DIRECTOR: Colin Trevorrow.  CAST: Chris Patt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, and David Oyelowo.

The long awaited fourth installment of the Jurassic franchise “JURASSIC WORLD” will be released in 2015 and the actual plot for the upcoming film has yet to be announced at the time of this post. The plot will be added once it is available. The rumor mill though, is in full swing. It has been stated that much of the film takes place on the island of Isla Nublar, which was the island from the first Jurassic Park film.

Rumors also state that Jurassic World (Jurassic Park: 4) will have succeeded in opening the theme park that John Hammond wanted in part 1, which never came to be then. There is also talks of underwater dinosaurs in this film as well as T-Rex possibly being up against a new threat, a dinosaur we’ve never seen in any of the past Jurassic Park films. We will update information on the much anticipated film as they are officially released.

TERMINATOR: GENISYS

DIRECTOR: Alan Taylor.  CAST: Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, Sandrine Holt, Aaron V. Williamson, Douglas Smith, and Matt Smith.

Mr. “I’ll Be Back” will be keeping his word in 2015 when Arnold Schwarzenegger returns to reprise his huge 80’s role as The Terminator in the first film of the Terminator franchise. According to Paramount two more films will follow Terminator: Genisys which for now are slated for May 19th, 2017 and June 19th, 2018 release dates(subject to change).

Alan Taylor will direct Genisys which will give new life to the characters but will pay homage to the original films of this franchise. The cast includes Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator, Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor, Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, also Jason Clarke as John Connor, Aaron V. Williamson as T-800, and Sandrine Holt as Detective Cheung, who arrests both Connor and Reese upon their arrival in 2017.

The highly anticipated reboot of the novel to movie  “IT” by Stephen King has yet to release much information as far as casting and the plot goes but what has been stated is that they plan to make “IT” into two films. The writers of the upcoming duo-films are Chase Palmer and Cary Fukunaga(director) who will likely follow close to the dark and thrilling storyline of the novel featuring the clown that nightmares are made of Pennywise the Dancing Clown.

Pennywise torments a group of adolescents while bringing their darkest fears to life. Not only does he make their eerie nightmares into reality, he taunts his victims in creepy ways, and to some he brings death. UPDATES: THE FILM HAS BEEN PUT ON HOLD.(CANCELLED FOR NOW.)

MAD MAX: FURY ROAD

DIRECTOR: George Miller.  CAST: Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Rosie Huntington, and Zoe Kravitz.

PLOT: “Mad Max: Fury Road” is the fourth film of George Miller’s Road Warrior/Mad Max franchise co-written and directed by Miller. The post-apocalyptic action film is set in the furthest reaches of our planet, in a stark desert landscape where humanity is broken, and most everyone is crazed fighting for the necessities of life.

Within this world of fire and blood exist two rebels on the run who just might be able to restore order… There’s Max (played by Tom Hardy from “The Dark Knight Rises”), a man of action and a man of few words, who seeks peace of mind following the loss of his wife and child in the aftermath of the chaos.

And… Furiosa (played by Charlize Theron from “Prometheus”), a woman of action and a woman who believes her path to survival may be achieved if she can make it across the desert back to her childhood homeland.-(ComingSoon)

JEM AND THE HOLOGRAMS

DIRECTOR: Jon M. Chu  CAST: Molly Ringwald, Juliette Lewis, Ryan Guzman, Aubrey Peeples, Stefanie Scott, Hayley Kiyoko, Aurora Perrineau, Nathan Moore, and Nicholas Braun.

The hit cartoon cult T.V. series from the 1980’s will be released in 2015 as a live-action movie adaptation. Young fresh-faced actresses have been cast as Jem and the Hologram’s band members. Aubrey Peeples is Jerrica(alter-ego “Jem”); Stefanie Scott, Hayley Kiyoko, and Aurora Perrineau as the Holograms. Ryan Guzman will play Rio Pacheco who is the band’s manager and Jem’s love interest. Familiar faces such as Molly Ringwald and Juliette Lewis have also been given roles in the film.

PLOT: (Will post further updates) In a hyper-linked social media age, an orphaned teenage girl, Jerrica “Jem” Benton, becomes an online recording sensation, and she and her sisters embark on a music-driven scavenger hunt – one that sends them on an adventure across Los Angeles – in an attempt to unlock a final message left by her father.-(IMDb) UPDATED: Artist of the comic, Ross Campbell recently confirmed in an interview with AdvocateSpotlight that the characters Kimber and Stormer will be in a romantic relationship together in the film.

GHOSTBUSTERS 3

DIRECTOR: Paul Feig.  CAST: Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.

Ghostbusters 3 was a rumor for a long time but earlier in 2014 it was confirmed that a reboot would definitely be coming to a theater near you in the near future. What has been officially confirmed is that the Ghostbuster crew will consist of an all female cast! Some of the rumors that have floated around before the cast was announced were that: some of the original cast will return or that Oscar(Sigourney Weaver’s character’s son)will become a Ghostbuster now as an adult.

What has been shared via Twitter from the film’s director @PaulFeig is this: “It’s official. I’m making a new Ghostbusters & writing it with @katiedippold & yes, it will star hilarious women. That’s who I’m gonna call.”

The original director Ivan Reitman was on board to direct this latest installment but he stepped down after the passing of the original Ghostbuster and writer of the film, Harold Ramis who played Egon Spegler. Reitman stayed a part of the film as a producer. Filming is set to being in the summer of 2015 in New York City. UPDATES: Chris Hemsworth has been cast to field the calls for the all female-cast of Ghostbusters as the receptionist.

Flash forward a few years and Erin(Wiig) lands a prestigious teaching position at Columbia U. (Like the original, the story takes place in New York City, even though it’s being shot in Boston.) Which is pretty sweet, until her book resurfaces and she is laughed out of academia. RAMBO 5: LAST BLOOD

In what is said to be the final film of the Rambo franchise, many fans are hoping for an ending with a big bang. The cast has not been fully confirmed yet but we do know that Sylvester Stallone will not only star in the film but he will also take the helm as director.

Recent Update(January 2014): Sylvester Stallone confirmed that this film will be underway soon and that the name is official. Check back for more updates on the final installment of the Rambo franchise.

PLOT:  Rambo will go  up against a Mexican cartel in his last dangerous mission.

Columbia Pictures is on board for a Jumanji remake to bring an updated version of the story to a new generation. We can only imagine what cool CGI effects could be used in a remake and what kind of adventurous fun will be involved. The possibilities are endless. All plans are still up in the air especially now after the passing of the late, great Robin Williams. We will keep you posted here with any new updates and confirmed news when it’s available.

POLTERGEIST

DIRECTOR: Gil Keenan.  CAST: Jared Harris, Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Kennedi Clements, Saxon Sharbino, Kyle Catlett, and Jane Adams.

The classic horror film is getting a sequel/remake through 20th Century Fox with Gil Keenan as the film’s director. The cast and plot have been confirmed and the film will be made in 3D.  2015’s Poltergeist writer has re-imagined and revamped the tale of a family’s suburban neighborhood home being invaded by terrifying spirits. With a drastic change in special effects available today and knowing that there are more electronics today then when the original film was made, we can safely assume that the spirits may go beyond simply coming through the television.

Jared Harris will play the celebrity ghost hunter and host of a cable TV show called Haunted House Cleaners in the film. The Bowen family will be played by Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt, Saxon Sharbino, Kyle Catlett, and Kennedi Clements as the youngest daughter of the Bowen family.  Jan Adams has been cast as Dr. Claire Powell.

PLOT: The film follows the classic horror tale of a family’s suburban neighborhood home being invaded by angry and terrifying spirits. When the frightening apparitions become more forceful while terrorizing the family, they escalate their attacks to the point of taking the youngest daughter. The family must unite to try and rescue her.

INDEPENDENCE DAY: RESURGENCE:

DIRECTOR: Roland Emmerich.  CAST: Jeff Goldblum, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Maika Monroe, Joey King, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Judd Hirsch, Brent Spiner, Sela Ward, William Fichtner, and Angelababy.

“Independence Day 2” which will be called “ID Forever Part 1” was announced in 2013 with Roland Emmerich set as the director. The film was given a 2016 release date for the first of a two-part sequel to the blockbuster hit “Independence Day”. The initial plan was to shoot both ID Forever Part 1 “Independence Day 2” and ID Forever Part 2 “Independence Day 3” back to back. The latest change announced officially is the title of “Independence Day Part 2” which is now titled INDEPENDENCE_DAY:_RESURGENCE.

What we can probably look forward to and expect: The story will have a new generation of humans defending mankind against their dangerous alien adversaries in a whole new way with all of the CGI special-effects available today that was not around in the 90’s. UPDATE ON CASTING: First off, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, and Vivica A. Fox are set to reprise their roles. AWESOME! Liam Hemsworth is taking a role as an alien butt-kicker in the upcoming ID2 film. Jessie Usher has also been cast and is being dubbed as “Will Smith 2.0” who will play (Will Smith’s character in the 1996 film)-Steven Hiller’s step-son, who I assume is Vivica A. Fox’s son from the first film. Maika Monroe has been cast as President Whitmore’s daughter which was originally played by Mae Whitman in the ID1 film.

UPDATES & CAMEO NEWS: Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Vivica A. Fox, Judd Hirsch, and Brent Spiner will all return to reprise their roles.

PLOT: 20 years after the events of the first film, a new wave of alien “reinforcements” arrive at our planet in response to a distress signal sent up by the “first wave” of extraterrestrial visitors. As expected, insanity ensues. (via: Bloody Disgusting)

MOVIES: Stephen King’s ‘IT’ [Film] Adaptation Remake!

STEPHEN KING’S ‘IT’ REMAKE-Coming Soon To a Theater Near You…

(Latest Update on the film can be found just below this) – The rumors have been floating around (no pun intended) for a few years that there would be a remake. In case you haven’t heard, “IT” OFFICIALLY has been! Stephen King’s ‘IT’ has become a big screen novel-to-film adaptation and remake. Part 1 was released in September of 2017. Part 2 of the adaptation is set to hit the big-screen in September of 2019! The film has been slated as 2 films: Part 1 is the characters’ story as children, and the 2nd will pick up 27 years later as adults when the “IT” terrors return. Director Andy Muschietti(previous work includes 2013’s horror flick ‘Mama’) will return to helm the film. The children stars of the Part 1 will return as well to reprise their roles in flashback scenes and Bill Skarsgard will return as the demented star of the film “Pennywise” the Dancing Clown. First up is the casting of the final young member of “The Losers Club’s,” Beverly “Bev” Marsh has been cast and the young actress is Sofia Lillis. Next, you have the casting of the villain and lead bully Henry Bowers who will be played by Australian actor Nicholas Hamilton. Also cast is Henry Bowers’ bully friend Patrick Hockstetter who will be played by actor Owen Teague. And last but definitely not least, we have Actor Javier Botet has been cast as the “Homeless Man, Lepper, Pennywise” that is seen in the Stephen King “IT” novel but was not portrayed in the T.V. film adaptation in 1990.  Who is getting very excited about the casting news

It’s been set for: September 18th, 2017! Who’s ready to be scared out of their mind? No clownin’ around! Sources have stated that Actor Will Poulter has dropped out of the film due to filming schedule conflicts. UPDATE as of June 2nd, 2016 *CASTING NEWS*:  Tim Curry brought the evil Pennywise clown character to life in the T.V. adaptation of Stephen King’s IT novel. Now sources have stated that Stephen King’s It – 2-part big screen Remake, to be directed by Andy Muschietti, may have found it’s new “Pennywise dancing clown.” Actor Bill Skarsgard(Hemlock Grove) is said to be in final negotiations to play Pennywise, the evil monster disguised as a clown set out to lure children to a possibly horrible demise. New Line wanted to take the dark character in a slightly different direction while keeping true to the novel storyline itself. The different route they wanted to take is to make the Pennywise character a little younger. I absolutely am on board and excited! Thoughts, fans?

UPDATE as of April 12, 2016:  The latest information regarding the long awaited remake of the Stephen King adaptation “IT” is that director Andy Muschietti is still on board with the film but no casting news has been announced as of yet. The “IT” remake is expected to be filmed in two-parts as a theatrical release from both the children’s point of view followed by the adult’s point of view. Filming is said to begin this summer in and around the city of Toronto. As more updates come up, check back here for the latest news!

UPDATE as of JULY 16th, 2015:  Don’t count “IT” out completely yet. When Cary Fukunaga parted from the film remake, the project was shelved. Now it seems that the studio is on the hunt for a replacement director and has their sights currently on director Andy Muschietti who directed the horror film “Mama.”  If he signs on as the new director, a new writer and script will be the next goal. Actor Will Poulter is no longer officially tied to the film but could possibly return if all factors align and if he’s available. The “IT” remake is expected to be filmed in two-parts as a theatrical release. As more updates come up, check back here for the latest news!

UPDATE as of JUNE 2nd, 2015:  What a way to deflate the fans excitement. I’m completely disappointed to share this update on the “IT” remake. The latest news shared by sources is that the film has been officially shelved a.k.a cancelled! It looks like we won’t be seeing an updated version of the gruesome and evil monster that disguised himself as a clown known as “Pennywise the dancing clown” in order to lure children to their demise. The story is based on the novel “IT” by horror writer favorite Stephen King and has been one of the scariest stories out there that continues to horrify readers. If any new updates emerge (fingers crossed for them to change their minds) check back here. I’ll definitely keep you updated on anything changes! The novel ‘IT’ by Stephen King and it’s 1,100 pages, is full of dark, scary and horrifying moments that dark nightmares are made of.  The questions remain:  Will the remake be made closer to the novel?  Will there be a huge, scary contrast between the television miniseries adaptation and the upcoming theatrical-film adaptation?  ‘IT’ is an awesomely-creepy story and most fans may feel that, if done correctly, it could have the potential to revive and breath new life to the world of horror films.  Only time will tell…

Stephen King’s ‘IT’ was made into a two-part television movie that aired in November of 1990.  The television miniseries had high ratings and has since become a fan-favorite in the horror-movie world, thanks to an evil ‘clown’ by the name of Pennywise.  Tim Curry received critical acclaim on his performance as Pennywise, the evil being disguised as a clown, causing horror, nightmares and death to his victims in a small town called Derry.  The ABC miniseries also starred Jonathan Brandis, Brandon Crane, Emily Perkins, Adam Faraizl, Seth Green, Marlon Taylor, Ben Heller and Jarred Blancard as the young characters. Also, John Ritter, Harry Anderson, Tim Reid, Annette O’Toole, Richard Thomas, Dennis Christopher, Richard Masur as the adult-version of the characters.

The Plot for ‘IT’:

In the Town of Derry, Maine the local children are disappearing one by one, leaving behind discarded, mutilated body parts/remains.  Soon afterwards, in a place known as ‘The Barrens’, a group of seven kids, known as ‘The Losers Club’, are united by their horrifying and strange encounters with a sadistic, wisecracking clown called Pennywise. They all seem to share the same kind of eerie experiences with this evil clown. One of the kids, Bill Denborough, has a more personal vendetta with Pennywise the clown.  Thirty years after their last encounter together with Pennywise, ‘The Losers Club’ has regrouped, leaving behind their adult lives they’ve lived successfully, after being contacted by the only member of ‘The Losers Club’ who stayed in Derry, Mike Hanlon.  He has let them all know that IT has returned, and kids are disappearing again.  The only problem is that they have all forgotten what occurred that summer.  But through a blood oath, they return.  It’s up to The Lucky Seven(formerly The Losers Club) to regain their memories, to think of the key to killing Pennywise, and end his tyranny but to also realize what brought them together in the first place.

My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ of the Novel ‘Kiss Me At Midnight’:

It’s New Year’s Eve and you find yourself back in your hometown, where you remember both good and not so-good memories. Regardless, you’re back and you aren’t the same as you were when you first left this place.  You’re single and looking for a one-night-stand to have fun with while ringing in the new year. There was someone in this town who use to be your best friend but during high school, that someone became a stranger to you. Even so, you came out tonight with the small chance of running into this ex-BFF at the small local bar. Why? What for? You have no clue but you’re here. This is what Dr. Ashley Hanes is asking herself while she searches for her next no-strings-attached hook-up to ring in the new year with. All the while her ex-best friend Ethan Pierce is searching for his own one-night hook up while he visits the old hometown that he loathes.  As the reader I’m happy to let you know that you do get two P.O.V.’s(point of views) in this story. You’ll follow the story in both main characters’ Ethan Pierce and Ashley Hanes.

Doctor Ashley Hanes moves back to her hometown after taking a position at the local hospital.  This town holds a history to her but her fondest and hardest memory is that of her former best friend, Ethan Pierce.  Ashley has grown from an average girl to a beautiful, confident and successful woman.  She moves back home to care for her mother after her father’s passing.  She has made a habit of satisfying her needs with one-night hook ups.  One New Year’s Eve she had no idea her life would take her back in time while changing her life in ways she never expected.

Former high-school geek, Ethan Pierce was once a scrawny guy, who use to wear over sized glasses, stuttered and was picked on in high-school.  Ashley Hanes was his best friend regardless of how anyone else treated him and he had a huge crush on her.  After he discovered something in high school, he stopped being her friend and ignored her from then on.  Ethan resented their hometown because of the horrible memories of being picked-on.  Now as an adult, Ethan is no longer that scrawny, geeky guy, he is now a successful IT guy, attractive, sexy and lives far away in California. On New Year’s Eve, he heads out while visiting his hometown in hopes of finding a sexy lady interested in a fun one-night stand. He didn’t count on her being in town or being there of all places.

This is a hot and fun story about a long-lost friendship that seems to have hopes for more when the two former-high school friends meet again nine years later as confident, sexy and successful adults.  Are the feelings between Ethan and Ashley just the thrill of their past unrequited feelings or is this something with potential for a future? Can Ashley truly get over the fact that Ethan hurt her long ago when he abruptly stopped being her friend?  And can Ethan finally admit his old feelings were more than a crush or will his dislike for this town send him running away again?  This novella is a fun and steamy read.
