Synopsis for ‘TRUST’:

Being young is all about the experiences: the first time you skip school, the first time you fall in love…the first time someone holds a gun to your head.

After being held hostage during a robbery at the local convenience store, seventeen-year-old Edie finds her attitude about life shattered. Unwilling to put up with the snobbery and bullying at her private school, she enrolls at the local public high school, crossing paths with John. The boy who risked his life to save hers.

While Edie’s beginning to run wild, however, John’s just starting to settle down. After years of partying and dealing drugs with his older brother, he’s going straight—getting to class on time, and thinking about the future.

An unlikely bond grows between the two as John keeps Edie out of trouble and helps her broaden her horizons. But when he helps her out with another first—losing her virginity—their friendship gets complicated.

Meanwhile, Edie and John are pulled back into the dangerous world they narrowly escaped. They were lucky to survive the first time, but this time they have more to lose—each other.

My ‘Blogging Readers ARC-Review’ after reading ‘TRUST’:

“Trust” is the latest novel from Best-selling author Kylie Scott. This story kicks off from the first chapter and stays compelling and entertaining all the way through. This novel definitely touches on a few heavy topics but it delivers in an engaging way. “Trust” is written from the one of the main character’s P.O.V.’s(point of view), Edie Millen.

Edie Millen was having a fun sleepover with her best friend Georgia. They decided to go to the nearby corner store to grab a few snacks dressed in their pajamas. Edie went in alone while Georgia waited in the car. The quick visit the store would turn into a dangerous night for her when someone decides to rob it. She can’t help but fear for her life as she comes to the realization that this may be the end. What she didn’t expect, was that the two other guys in the store with her would risk their lives to try and save them all.

With her outlook on life completely altered, feeling hurt by a decision her best friend Georgia made, Edie makes a decision. She wants to leave her high price private school behind and attend a local public school. Edie finds it hard to care about the things that used to bother her challenge her, like bullies and following the rules. She begins an unlikely bond and friendship with John, the guy who did his best to keep her safe during the store robbery.

John is popular and known around his high school as the go-to-guy for all the wrong things. When his life changes after the robbery and because of his older brother, John decides to do better. He cleans up his act and tries hard to do better in school. Unfortunately, he’s already earned a reputation among his peers and the staff at school. They give him a hard time now that he’s trying to change his life. Edie is in the picture now and she may be just the person to either help his change or add to his problems.

As John and Edie grow a strong bond and a genuine friendship, how will the robbery they experienced together, affect their lives? When Edie comes to John to ask him for a huge favor that could change things, will John see it through or turn her down? Can John save himself and Edie again when they find themselves in a another dangerous situation? “Trust” is a dangerously enthralling story. You’ll find yourself pulled into the lives of the characters, John and Edie, and experience their firsts in a way that will keep your interest and entertain in such a staggering way. I highly recommend this riveting read and the amazing way it touches on heavy topics. If you’re looking for your next read, this one is definitely worth it! ❤

But it’s hard to trust after having been betrayed. Will Taylor repeat her past mistakes or can she score a fresh start?

______

My ‘Blogging Reader’s ARC-Review’ after reading ‘DEFENDING TAYLOR’ by Miranda Kenneally:

“Defending Taylor” is the first novel that I’ve had the opportunity to read from author Miranda Kenneally. This novel is definitely a coming-of-age story and delivers on many charming aspects within the story-line. It falls into the genres of young adult and contemporary romance with a nice measure of sports. “Defending Taylor” is written from the main female character’s P.O.V.(point of view), Taylor “Tee” Lukens.

After a bad incident at St. Andrews Academy,  Taylor “Tee” Lukens has no choice but to move to a public school near her parents. She broke up with her boyfriend Ben, must say goodbye to her old friends and has to start new at Hundred Oaks High school. Her one bad choice was starting to snowball into a life changer. Her main concern was ruining her GPA and not being able to go to Yale. As soon as Taylor begins at her new school, she realizes that her mistake may follow her here. And to top it off the one boy that she crushed on for most of her Adolescent and teenage years decides to show up into her life again.

Taylor comes face-to-face with Ezra Carmichael, her older brother Oliver’s best friend, the one who unknowingly stole her heart and broke it. Just seeing him again reminds Taylor of the day he broke her heart at her sixteenth birthday party. Did she still have feelings for Ezra? What secret is Ezra hiding?

With the huge secret that Taylor is hiding from those she cares about most, is she risking her father’s career as well as her relationship with Ezra? Will she ever be happy at her new school Hundred Oaks or will her past continue to cause her drama? “Defending Taylor” is an entertaining and enjoyable story about a young girl making one mistake that affects her life and those she loves, in a big way. It’s also about finding herself, finding love, and figuring out how to grow from an error in judgment. I recommend this if you’re looking for a decently satisfying novel with appealing characters. Check this out if it piques your interest. 🙂

______

My ‘Blogging Reader’s ARC-Review’ after reading ‘MAGGIE’S FIVE’ (Five Series – book #1):

This is my full review for “Maggie’s Five” which is the first novel of the Five Series by Sandra Fitzgerald. This novel is a blend of suspense, romance, with dark twists. Readers may find themselves wondering if the main female character, Maggie, will ever deal with the major loss she’s faced with. This novel is written mostly from the main character’s P.O.V.(point of view), Maggie Mae Cartwright with a short second P.O.V. from Luke Andrews.

Maggie Mae Cartwright has a good life. It’s exactly where she wanted it to be, being married to the love of her life Brendan who adores and loves her to no end and the beautiful family they have which includes two beautiful daughters, Mattie and Ella. On what started as a beautiful Christmas Day morning, one of Maggie’s favorite holidays, it quickly turned into a tragic and horrific nightmare at the hands one foolish person’s mistake. The blood curdling sounds that came from the front yard of their home, would be the end to every beautiful thing that mattered in Maggie’s life. Her world would never be the same…now that her husband and beautiful daughter’s lives have ended and hers painfully continues.

Brendan’s brother, Jon Cartwright tries his best to help Maggie out while he can but the biggest help came from an unexpected person. Luke Andrews, and old classmate, friend and someone she hasn’t seen in so many years. Seeing him there, helping her, showing her so much support, it was the only thing helping her to not lose it completely. Luke has his own life in New York but Maggie Mae needs him so he tries to be there for her for as long as he can. But before long, his life and job back in the big city beckon him to return, leaving Maggie to try and pull herself through her grief on her own. Luke promises to return as soon as possible but Maggie is quickly finding herself falling into a dark hole that numbs her more than actually helps her grieve for the family she has lost.

On her own, she ends up meeting a really attractive bartender named Red. He quickly lures her with his seductive words, flirty-friendliness and promises to help her escape what’s “real”. Maggie begins to entangle her life with Red’s in the many dark and twisted ways that he offers to her which include partying at night clubs,  while he offers her methods to numb her mind and heart, as well as entices her with sexual exploration. Maggie’s life is quickly spiraling downhill and the numbness seems to be her only form of peace from the heart-wrenching pain she feels every minute of every day. Even if it’s not healthy or good for her, she keeps digging herself deeper into Red’s twisted lifestyle.

Will Maggie ever find her way back from the downward spiral that her life seems to be headed? Will Maggie be able to find a way to grieve that doesn’t bring danger and risk to her health and life? What kind of secret does Luke hold about his past? Will Maggie keep Red in her life? Can Luke help Maggie or will his life in New York pull him away from her for good? This was an emotional journey about a woman who is dealing with the tragic loss of her family. Her imperfections make her seem real because everyone grieves differently and some choose to numb the pain instead of what most would consider healthy grieving. The storyline had interesting moments and there were some strong scenes that are very emotional. The story in general was dark and keeps you hoping that Maggie pulls herself from the dark path she’s on. It’s hard to rate this novel because it has great moments that captivate the reader but there were a couple of moments that left me wanting more. I did however, appreciate the second P.O.V. from Luke in the epilogue. But all in all, this was a decently enjoyable novel. Check this one out if you are looking for a deep story that touches on some very tough issues. Note: Recommended for mature readers due to drugs and sexual situations. Pick up your copy readers.

MEMORABLE QUOTES & LINES FROM ‘MAGGIE’S FIVE’

Brendan to Maggie:  “I love you Maggie, that’s never going to change, but we’re a little better off now and I wanted to finally give you the ring that you deserve.” He shifts onto a bent knee. “I’d ask you to marry me every day of my life if it meant keeping you forever,” he says, opening the small blue box in his hand and holds it out for me, “So marry me every day for the rest of my life if you need to, because I’m keeping you forever, Maggie. You make me the happiest, luckiest man on the planet, my wife, and I love you so fucking much it hurts.”

Maggie’s thoughts:  I love, no, hate how much I like the way he holds me. There’s no pretense, no expectation, only friendship and comfort. Normally it’s Luke comforting me – this time however, I’m not so sure.

Luke and Maggie:  “I’m so sorry Maggie. I am so, so very sorry.”
I try to push away but he squeezes me tighter. All I want to do is run away and hide for the rest of my life, or until people stop leaving me. “It’s fine. Luke, it is. You have to work. You have a life outside of me.” I’m trying to convince myself more than him.
“That’s where you’re wrong, Maggie.” He’s lying, he has to be. I have an empty shell of a life. He has so much more.

Maggie’s thoughts:  Lawns are mowed, gardens manicured to ‘Edwards Scissor Hands’ perfection. Life moves forwards. I can’t understand how everything is able to function so normally when my world is in tatters. How can the earth revolve on its axis and not tilt off course with something this monumental? It’s unfair. I feel robbed.

Raleigh and Mia:  I hate him for growing up with me, for always looking out for me, protecting me. I hate him for wanting me, for kissing me first and last, for loving me more than life, then not being here to live his, for giving me everything I could possibly ever want, then taking it all away. For leaving me and never being able to come back when he promised to always be by my side. I love him so much, my entire being is bereaved without him. I love him and hate him. I don’t know how to do any of this without him. I don’t know if I want to.

Maggie and Red:  He presses a tender moist kiss to my mouth, licks my lips apart again and places a small pill inside while I pull away slightly. He repeats the words he used last time I questioned him. “It’s nothing real sweetheart.” And it’s not. What Red gives me isn’t real like the stuff he uses. It’s fine. I’m fine. Better even. I swallow and lean in to hold him as euphoria warms me to my core, heightening my senses, at the same time dulling my reality.

Maggie’s thoughts:  Remember I don’t need him, I don’t need him, I don’t need him, I chant silently. He’ll give me hope then take it all away. I don’t want to need him, I don’t… but God I’ve missed him, really missed him. Far more than I realized until now.

The Synopsis for ‘Wild Reckless’:

Kensington Worth had a vision for her senior year. It involved her best friends, her posh private school in downtown Chicago and time alone with her piano until her audition was perfected, a guaranteed ticket into the best music programs in the world.

Instead, a nightmare took over.

It didn’t happen all at once, but her life unraveled quickly—a tiny thread that evil somehow kept pulling until everything precious was taken from her. She was suddenly living miles away from her old life, trapped in an existence she didn’t choose—one determined to destroy her from the inside, leaving only hate and anger behind. It didn’t help that her neighbor, the one whose eyes held danger, was enjoying every second of her fall.

Owen Harper was trouble, his heart wild and his past the kind that’s spoken about in whispers. And somehow, his path was always intertwined with Kensington’s, every interaction crushing her, ruining her hope for any future better than her now. Sometimes, though, what everyone warns is trouble, is exactly what the heart needs. Owen Harper was consumed with darkness, and it held onto his soul for years. When Kensington looked at him, she saw a boy who’d gotten good at taking others down when they threatened his carefully balanced life. But the more she looked, the more she saw other things too—good things…things to admire.

Things…to love. Things that made her want to be reckless.

And those things…they were the scariest of all.

My ‘Blogging Reader’s ARC-Review’ for ‘Wild Reckless’ by Ginger Scott:

This is the latest novel from one of my personal favorite romance authors, Ginger Scott. Wild Reckless is a contemporary romance that has a high school setting but the emotions run high in this novel. “Wild Reckless” is written in the main female character’s P.O.V.(point of view), Kensington Worth.

The story begins by sending us right to the main situation that occurred and effected the main male character’s life greatly. Owen Harper is a young child and so excited to go to the carnival with his father, who the town views as a crazy person. His father talks to himself so often that Owen has come to believe it is normal. Once there, things seem great until the unexpected happens. Owen was a young child when he witnessed his father fall to his death. The Harper brothers, James, Owen and Andrew’s lives would be changed significantly from that tragic event.

The story picks up thirteen years later, introducing us to Kensington Worth who recently moved to the town of Woodstock with her parents from the city of Chicago.  She left behind her two best friends, the posh academy she attended, and the life she’d known because her father wanted this move. She a beautiful girl who is looking to do her best in her senior year of high school and continue her love of music. But once she discovers that her happiness and life were full of lies, her world is shattered. And to top it off, she soon finds out that her next door neighbor is this not-so-friendly, rude, sexy and possibly dangerous guy who is also her new classmate named Owen Harper.

Owen Harper is the middle Harper brother and is very attractive when he’s not living up to his bad reputation. His older brother James has been going down the wrong path of addiction and drugs and Owen has been trying his hardest to protect his younger brother Andrew from it all. Owen seems lost, dangerous and all about partying hard with fast cars and fast girls. When the new girl Kensington moves in next door, he doesn’t think much of her…at first. Owen has been living up to the negative lifestyle the town assumes he belongs in but there are more layers to him. He holds his own secrets and most people don’t know and mostly don’t care to know about any of it. Not everything is as it always seems.

This was another dynamic novel from author Ginger Scott. The main characters Kensington and Owen are both thrown into a tailspin when secrets are revealed that threaten them in different ways.  Can Kensington get passed the secret that is revealed directly effecting her life? Can Owen continue to carry all of the weight of everyone in his life? But is there more to the town’s bad-boy middle Harper brother than what is rumored about him? Will they bring out the best in each other or is it destined for them to be wild and reckless? This was an enjoyable read with fantastic characters, a compelling storyline, and significant moments that stir many emotions. I recommend this. The characters are interesting by how they deal with situations that could tear away at a person. This story touches on serious issues like addiction, suicide and drugs. Family, love and friendship is what this story is about. It’s worth the read if you’re looking for something to delve into next. 🙂

MEMORABLE QUOTES & LINES FROM ‘WILD RECKLESS′

Kensington’s thoughts:  “Thanks for helping,” I whisper again, following it up with the word asshole in my head.
Suddenly, his dark eyes are on mine, and I would swear he heard me with the smug smirk that creeps into one cheek. The ball never stops moving. His hand never stops moving. He’s operating completely independent of the hypnosis he’s attempting to put me under— the soft squint to his eyes somehow making them more ominous. I’m not quite sure he isn’t evil. And I’m also not quite sure that this hypnosis isn’t working.

Owen and Kensington:  “I always thought he was the greatest man alive. All the way until he wasn’t,” Owen says, and my gut twists with a hurt I’ve never felt before.
Sympathy. That’s what I feel for Owen Harper. Just then, I realize, he’s not really wild at all. He’s heartbroken.
And maybe I don’t hate him as much as I thought I did.

Kensington’s thoughts: The world’s greatest smile stretched on his lips. It’s my new favorite smile. An entirely new one that I kind of think might just be for me and me alone. I like it, almost as much as I like him.

Owen and Kensington: “It’s okay,” he whispers, and I slide back along my bed, bringing my knees into my chest.
“What is ?” I ask, the rush of heartbeats drumming in my head, drowning me.
“I look at you, too,” he says, and now my heart is rushing for an entirely different reason. Oh my god, oh my god….
“Kens? Relax,” he says.

Kensington’s thoughts:  Owen doesn’t look , and he doesn’t break our trance. But he does finally speak. “You are the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen,” he says, and all at once, I fall for Owen Harper.

Phoenix Rising Rock Band Series - 1 INFERNO by Kathryn Kelly

The Synopsis:

I’m a rocker with the eyes of the world on me. Waiting for my triumph or my downfall…just waiting. Most of my life is in my hands. My destiny? That’s another story. My destiny isn’t as debt free.

My band, Phoenix Rising, arrives in Houston to cut a new album. Before we perform our first concert in the city and I choose my groupies of the night, I’m thrust into debauchery. Sleeping with a gorgeous woman twenty years older than me has its perks, especially when her husband orchestrated the encounter and eagerly watches. To me, performing is performing. If a man wants to share his wife, who am I to stop him?

Unfortunately for me, I don’t make a clean getaway as I leave the McCall mansion. Georgie, their sixteen-year-old daughter, is in the midst of her own intrigue, sneaking home in the middle of the night after an evening of drugs and sex with her older brother’s best friend. In her, I see me. She’s lost and drifting. Her hedonistic parents insist she’s old enough to make her own decisions. Instead of time and love, they give her money and things.

I’m a twenty-five-year old international superstar and I know better. I’m cocky and arrogant. I know it so I own it. Somehow, I’ve always bested the fates. I have all to lose—my reputation, my career, and my freedom. Her mother’s jealousy forces my hand and I take Georgie on the tour.

This is our story and our secret relationship and the destruction of my life. You know the adage about secrets? Three may keep a secret, if two of them are dead. Wise words from a wise man. If only I had listened. Secrets have a way of revealing themselves in the harshest way.

My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ after reading ‘INFERNO’:

This is the first novel in the new series from author Kathryn Kelly named Phoenix Rising Rock Band Series. If you’re familiar with her previous work, readers know you can rely on her to write an intense novel with plenty of raw and emotional moments. The characters always stir powerful feelings in you whether it be a strong love or hate for each of them. And that is always a great thing when you read a story because it draws you into the novel so much more. “Inferno” is written in the three P.O.V.’s(point of views) from Sloane Mason, Georgiana McCall, and Cassandra McCall.

The story begins with a huge revelation about where the story will go for one of the main characters, sixteen year old Georgiana McCall. Georgie’s life is filled with nice things money can buy, her new curiosity with drugs, exploring her sexuality while remaining a virgin, and having parents who’d rather give her money instead of attention. She runs the risk of dieing young but no one around her seems to really care one way or the other. She can feel it, too. Her brother’s best friend has been secretly introducing her to the darker things in life without her big brother’s knowledge. She uses it all as an escape from her empty existence that has been slowly bringing her down.

Georgiana’s mother Cassandra McCall has always been looked at as classy within the social circle of high society she’s a part of. But there are many more, deeper layers to her life than what she shows to those she clinks wine glasses with in he snobby social world. She will do anything to keep her husband Parnell happy and satisfied, which includes allowing extra outside lovers into their bedroom to spice their sexual life up. When the famous rocker Sloane Mason comes over for a one night tryst with Cassandra with her husband’s permission, things become messy, fast.

Rock star and lead singer of the band Phoenix Rising, Sloane Mason, lives the life of what a rock star and his reputation is mostly accurate. He has a new woman or a few women each night, parties hard with his band mates and long time friends, and is as cocky as can be. At a party he meets a very sexy girl that happened to be high as a kite. He spends a little time trying to get her right while she’s busy fangirling over who he is and wanting to seduce him. Temptation is a strong drug sometimes. He gives in a little. He also can’t help but see a little bit of himself in this young, broken girl. After that brief encounter, he ends up sharing a very wild night with a married woman. The only problem was that as he was leaving, he runs into the same girl he met from the party. He finds out she’s only sixteen from her father!

From there, the story just falls into a twisted tailspin for all of the characters involved in this story while delving into a taboo relationship between Sloane and Georgie. This story is dark, twisted and captivating. This is not your typical romance so don’t expect that. “Inferno” takes you for a deeper ride down a dark road where the temptations are full of intoxicating decadence at every corner. The characters and their imperfect needs struggle through their choices. Will Georgiana learn to live a better life or will it end before it can truly begin? Is Sloane always going to live up to his bad-boy reputation or will he prove naysayers wrong? Will Cassandra go to any distance to stop her daughter from getting what she wants? I definitely say this one is worth the read and I’m looking forward to what is next in this series. And yay, there is a sneak-peek into the next novel of this series toward the end! Check this one out, I recommend it!

MEMORABLE QUOTES & LINES FROM ‘INFERNO’

Georgiana’s thoughts:  Sloane’s it for me, no matter how easily I was replaced. I understand his actions. I do. My age, his secrets, and lifestyle doomed us from the beginning.

Sloane and Georgiana:  “And you?” I question hoarsely. “No one would feel your loss?”
“No one remembers I’m alive.”
Her words echo in my brain and I realize it’s a play on my own words from one of my most infamous interviews. Everyone knows I’m alive. One is as bad as the other. In a fishbowl, attention limits you. With one snapshot or word, you’re either loved, admired, scorned, or hated. Sometimes, it’s a combination. Solitary, though, isolation is the enemy.

Georgiana’s thoughts:  He pauses when his gaze lands on me. I can’t speak. I can’t think. I can hardly breathe. An inferno is building inside of me and my entire being trembles. I’m about to seriously fan girl. Not two feet away from me, looking like the rock god he is, stands Sloane, like I’ve conjured him up or like I gave him a way to contact me.

Sloane’s thoughts:  She’s stirring something inside me. I have no clue what. Perhaps, she’s humanizing me and reminding me of my descent to the bottom of my drug hell.

Georgie to Sloane:  “You can’t save me. I was fucking lost when you found me and I’ll be lost when you decide to throw me away. Whatever else goes on, the one thing that isn’t, is me staying with you anymore.”
