How To Disappear by Ann Redisch Stampler

The Synopsis:

This electric cross-country thriller follows the game of cat and mouse between a girl on the run from a murder she witnessed—or committed? —and the boy who’s sent to kill her.

Nicolette Holland is the girl everyone likes. Up for adventure. Loyal to a fault. And she’s pretty sure she can get away with anything…until a young woman is brutally murdered in the woods near Nicolette’s house. Which is why she has to disappear.

Jack Manx has always been the stand-up guy with the killer last name. But straight A’s and athletic trophies can’t make people forget that his father was a hit man and his brother is doing time for armed assault. Just when Jack is about to graduate from his Las Vegas high school and head east for college, his brother pulls him into the family business with inescapable instructions: find this ruthless Nicolette Holland and get rid of her. Or else Jack and everyone he loves will pay the price.

As Nicolette and Jack race to outsmart each other, tensions—and attractions—run high. Told in alternating voices, this tightly plotted mystery and tense love story challenges our assumptions about right and wrong, guilt and innocence, truth and lies.

My ‘Blogging Reader’s ARC-Review’ after reading ‘HOW TO DISAPPEAR’ by Ann Redisch Stampler:

How to Disappear is the first novel I’ve had the opportunity to read and review from author Ann Redisch Stampler. This novel is of the Young Adult genre with a somewhat face-paced murder mystery story-line with a blend of suspense, some thriller and romance aspects to it. The mystery aspect of the story keeps us guessing as we follow the two main characters from their two different perspectives in the story. One is the hunter and the other is the prey, or so it seems. This novel has been written from the two main character’s P.O.V.’s(point of views) from Nicolette Holland and Jack Manx.

Nicolette Holland is on the run. She’s a seventeen year old, who’s always blended well with her peers as popular student, cheerleader and her friendly persona. But now her life has been spun into a whirlwind of suspense as she disappears from her life back home in order to get away from the ordeal that has become her life now. A young lady had her throat slit and Nicolette is the main suspect. Did Nicolette really commit the crime or is she being framed? Will she be able to ever return to her life?

Jack Manx is set to go to college, make something of his life, and not follow in his father and older brother Don’s footsteps. Unfortunately, Don has requested that Jack do a huge favor for him while he’s incarcerated. The lifestyle Jack has tried to escape from, seems to be pulling him in. Their childhood friend Connie Marino has been killed, throat slit, and he’s been asked to hunt down the person responsible: Nicolette Holland. Will Jack be able to find Nicolette? What will he do to her once he finds her?

There are many twists and turns in “How To Disappear” that will keep you guessing and questioning your initial assumptions. That makes for an entertaining mystery novel. The characters share a strength and some fun sarcasm that adds an amusing quality to the dialogue. I do recommend this if you enjoy reading a novel that keeps you intrigued but also delivers mystery and suspense with a taste of romance. The plot thickens as the main characters run down the paths of their lives that lead them to an intersection, leaving them to decide how to proceed.  Check this one out if this piques your interest! 🙂
