The Class of 2000 held one final party in the old gym before the high school was abandoned and boarded up. At midnight, the school emptied for the last time. Or so everyone believed.
Fifteen years later, the building is scheduled for demolition. When a salvage team discovers a skeleton curled up in a locker, a hole in the left temple, Lockports chief of police, Neil Redfern, is called in to investigate.
When Redfern learns that his girlfriend, Bliss Moonbeam Cornwall, also graduated that fateful year, he reveals details of the grisly discovery. She insists she knows who his victim is, but before any headway can be made in the case, another grad is killed. Could the two murders be connected?
Despite being warned against meddling in police affairs, Bliss enlists the help of two former classmates to find the killer. But digging into the past proves to be a dangerous pastime. Her unconventional methods jeopardize the investigation, her relationship with Redfern, and her own life.”
My ‘Blogging Reader’s ARC-Review’ after reading ‘SHROUD OF ROSES’ by Gloria Ferris:
This novel “Shroud Of Roses” is the second novel A Cornwall and Redfern Mysteries by Author Gloria Ferris. I’ve never read the first novel of this series but after reading this one, it doesn’t seem that it effects the story at all. For me, it seemed to be easily readable as a stand-alone novel. There is some romance intertwined but the story mostly centers around the mystery behind a cold case in the small town and other murders that may or may not be tied together. This novel is written in the two main character’s P.O.V.’s(point of views) of Bliss Moonbeam Cornwall and Police Chief Neil Redfern.
Bliss Moonbeam Cornwall has grown up in Lockport and continues to live her adult life in the same town with many of the same people she’s always known. When her old high school is finally set to be demolished, a skeleton tucked away in one of the girl’s locker room lockers is found. Who could it be? How long has it been there? These questions begin an investigation by the town’s Police Chief Neil Redfern, who also happens to be having a romantic fling with the sometimes fiesty-local Bliss Cornwall.
Police Chief Neil Redfern is still getting over his past while trying to figure out a possible future with the spunky and never-shy local resident Bliss Moonbeam Cornwall. Now he has a death, which may be a potential murder, on his hands. To top it off, the woman he’s been spending his time with, Cornwall, is doing her own investigating which is annoying some of the residents in Lockport. When things seemed to be concentrated on solving who the skeletal remains belong to, the death of another occurs. The plot thickens. This seems to bring speculation that the old crime and this new death may somehow actually be tied together. But how?
“Shroud Of Roses” is a suspenseful novel with a little romance and a lot of mystery. This novel was enjoyable because it keeps you guessing and wondering who could be behind the deaths. Everyone is a possible suspect. Bliss Cornwall is a wild and rough-around-the-edges kind of character who seems to be like-able because of her uniquely-spirited personality. Will justice be served? Can Bliss actually help find out who is behind the deaths or will she become the next victim in this dangerous investigation? I will recommend this novel for readers who are looking for a decently good suspense novel with an entertaining story-line of mystery. Check it out if this sounds like something you’d be into reading. 🙂
