The Synopsis:

Parker Black wants the one woman he shouldn’t have—his buddy’s girl. She sweet and smart, but clueless about how deep Parker lives in Titan’s virtual world. Everything is controlled. Chaos is mastered. Black and white data and risk analyst. That is the way he understands his world, how he plays his role to keep Titan teams alive.

But he’s wrong.

About everything.

Lexi Dare lives two lives. She’s an unhappy fiancé stuck in a spiraling relationship, unsure how she ended up with a ring on her finger and an abuser in her bed. But she’s also elusive. Elite. A master hacker playing deadly stakes.

When the lines blur and the truth comes out, Lexi’s only shot at survival is the trust of her rival—her equal—before it’s too late.

My ‘Blogging Reader’s ARC-Review’ after reading ‘BLACK DAWN’ (A Dark Obsession Novel Series – book #1 – Standalone):

This is the sixth novel of the Titan series by the incredible author Cristin Harber and it’s titled “Black Dawn.”  I’ve read other novels from Cristin Harber and am definitely a fan of her amazing work, so when I was invited to read and review this standalone novel which is a part of an action-packed series. I had not had the chance to read any of the other novels of this series but since this was a standalone, I couldn’t pass up the chance to read something from this novel series. This novel is a part of the genres of contemporary romance, suspense and has a military tone intertwined. Reader’s will be reading this novel from a total of four character’s P.O.V.(point of view) which are Lexi Dare, Parker Black, Matt Pindon and Phiber.

Parker Black is a member of a secretive and elite private security group that goes by the name of Titan. He’s tall, strong and very attractive so when people find out that he’s also tech-savvy and smart, it comes as a surprise. He’s not all brawn and no brain, not even close. He’s had a friendship with Matt Pindon since childhood. Matt is wild, fun, outgoing and always has a snarky remark about everyone around him that he plays-down with a joking undertone to it. Parker has always been focused on his work and his “family”, the other members of Titan and nothing else has ever made him lose focus. No woman, no silly hobbies and not even the “nerd” jokes his buddy Matt slings his way every now and again.

When Matt Pindon meets a beautiful leather-clad blonde named Lexi at the bar one night, she isn’t at all receptive to his come-on one-liners but when he finally breaks a tiny piece of shield and gets her to give him her number, it would be the start of something more. Too bad, the something more would be a bad path to a violent ,abusive, and manipulative relationship that would grow into something very unhealthy. Matt’s constant drinking problem and excuses of why he was pissed off as well as why he could never hold a job would lead to him having angry outbursts that Lexi unfortunately was usually on the receiving end of.

Lexi Dare loved her bike, wearing leather and hacking into things that needed her special touch. When she met Matt, she didn’t want anything to do with him because her focus was on her work but she finally gave in. He offered her something she never had since she grew up in the foster care system: someone to love her, someone to protect her and someone to love. But the twisted way Matt loved Lexi, was not what she expected. It seemed to grow worse the longer she stayed in that relationship. She met Parker through Matt and always had a little secret crush on him because he seemed so different in comparison to Matt. Lexi’s horrible relationship was not the only secret she’s been living with, she also kept her “job” a secret from most people in her life. Lexi is a professional hacker and has developed a new program that her hacker friend “Shadow” has been helping to try to find a buyer for. This would be her way out of her bad situation. Sell her program, use the money to disappear. Simple right? Not quite. A very bad group of people are dead set on stealing her work and are willing to go to any extreme to get it in their hands. And it does not matter who dies along the way.

“Black Dawn” was such an intense and mind-blowing novel about living a lie and finding yourself in the midst of chaos. Who is SliverChaos? And who is BlackDawn? What will happen if these dangerous people get a hold of Lexi’s program? Who can Lexi trust and who is out to get her? Can Lexi escape her controlling and abusive fiance Matt before it’s too late? Will Parker ever be able to deal with his secret feelings for someone he shouldn’t want? And what secrets is Parker hiding? All of the answers can be found in “Black Dawn” to which I highly recommend. It’s suspenseful, steamy with a great romance story as well as being packed with a great amount of action.  As I mentioned earlier, I have not read the previous novels in this series but if they are anything like this, then they must be amazing. This was such an enjoyable and exciting story. You should definitely check this one out! 🙂

MY BLOGGING READER’S STAR RATING: ‘BLACK DAWN’  4 1/2 out of 5 stars:

MEMORABLE QUOTES & LINES FROM ‘BLACK DAWN’

Matt’s thoughts:  She was the kind of cool that rocked his world. Beautiful with a style that screamed sexy and confident, and that kind of scream he wanted in his bed tonight. Blond hair that was a shade darker than platinum and blue eyes that shone so light and bright in a bar of fussed up, boozed up women. This woman was out of his league, and that kind of challenge was a rarity. Hell, challenge accepted.

Lexi’s thoughts:  Whenever there was a big corporate hacker challenge during the day, one of the top dogs in the cyber world threw a rager that night. Tonight was all her doing, though few knew who she was. Anonymity was comfortable. It had been her one constant over the years, even if some hackers had tried to connect her name and handle. To most, she was just a regular party girl who worked the underground scene.

Lexi’s thoughts on “Shadow”:  Over the years, he’d made himself her father figure as well as her business adviser.
Lose the douche.
Those were Shadow’s only words of wisdom when she mentioned the engagement. As if it were that simple. Shadow had been by her side since she was seventeen. Last year, for their ten-year working relationship anniversary, he took her to Paris, where they disabled the security and paid off the guards for a private tour of the Louvre. Shadow had a lot of friends in dark places.

Lexi’s thoughts on “BlackDawn”:  She’d never met him in person but chatted with him almost every week. Years ago, they’d formed an alliance because sometimes hacks needed more than one set of hands. Sometimes code needed another mind mulling it over. BlackDawn was one of the very few hackers who could hold their own at the highest echelons. But she and he were also slightly competitive.

Jake’s thoughts:  Instead of replaying the constant battle of leave-versus-one-day-it-will-be-better, Lexi focused on their weekend plans. They were meeting up with a few of his friends, so even if he did drink, he wouldn’t be a complete jerk to her. At least while they were in public. Plus there was a good chance that Parker Black, the crush that she’d never admit to, would be there too. Her heart picked up its pace.

Parker’s thoughts:  She smelled like sweet citrus. Like sugar and lemons. His mouth watered. Couple his visceral reactions with the plain fact that he did not want to let go, and the situation was complicated. That was problematic because he wasn’t familiar with complicated.

Lexi’s thoughts:  His lips were so right, so absolutely perfectly beautiful that she forgot to do more than just exist. She memorized his taste as he urged her to open, letting his tongue tease hers. His hands held her as though she was precious yet unbreakable as his fingers flexed into her back. Every time she’d dreamed about his kiss, her most spectacular thoughts were nothing like this.

Lexi’s thoughts:  A man she hadn’t seen before walked from the shadows. He circled her, assessing and judging. His intense scrutiny wasn’t about her as a woman but a hacker. She could sense her people, and this guy was a wannabe-elite hacker, a man with no scruples. He was evil. It flowed in the air as he breathed. His eyes were as intelligent as they were dead. He had no morals, no compass, no thought for humanity. He was as emotionless as she’d ever seen a person. It was completely terrifying.
