The Synopsis for ‘Ruined’:

Hell is looking for a way to break loose…

Jax lost the genetic lottery. Descended from Cain, the world’s first murderer, he’s plagued by a curse that demands violence in exchange for his happiness. He left everything behind, including the girl he loved, but thriving on the pain of others is lonely… And it’s killing him.

After a series of heartbreaking losses, Samantha put rubber to pavement and headed for college as fast as her clunker could carry her. But she can’t outrun her problems. When an attack at school drives her back home, she’s thrown into the path of a past—and a guy—she’s been trying to forget.

Sam strains Jax’s control over his darkness, but running isn’t an option this time. Someone—or, something—followed her home from school: a ruthless monster with a twisted plan centuries in the making. Forced together to survive, and fighting an attraction that could destroy them both, Jax and Sam must stop a killer bent on revenge.

My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ after reading ‘RUINED’ (The Eternal Balance Series book #1)’:

This novel has been sitting on my ‘To Read’ list on Goodreads for a few months and now that I’ve had a minute to get to it, here goes my review on it.  ‘Ruined’ is the first novel of The Eternal Balance Series by Jus Accardo.  The story is pretty different from most stories I’ve read lately. This story involves demons, descendents of Cain and the way they are tied to the human world.  The story reads from the two main character’s P.O.V.’s(point of views), Samantha ‘Sam Merrick and Jax Flynn.

Three years.  It had been three years since Samantha ‘Sam’ Merrick last saw her neighbor and dear friend, Jax Flynn.  She had convinced herself that he didn’t find her special enough to stick around so she eventually moved on, more or less.  He was the person who had been there for her ever since her parents funeral, who had been murdered. Threw the years her feelings for him grew and he became someone she cared for a lot.  They shared a kiss one night and the next day, he was gone.  He left with no word to her.  No letter. Nothing but the memory of him and the one kiss they had finally shared.

Humans use the phrase ‘fight the demons inside’ for many reasons but for Jax Flynn, fighting the demon inside, took on a whole new meaning.   Jax has a real demon that lives inside that sends him into a rage that at times, becomes more than he can control.  In all of his tall, broodiness and handsome looks,  Sam, his Sammy, had always been there for him as a caring friend.  And he always wanted to keep her safe.  His twin brother, Chase Flynn on the other hand, he loved but the demon in him hated Chase completely.  For years, Jax fought hard to control the urge to kill and horrible images that the demon provided him.  The demon wanted to gruesomely murder his twin brother Chase and use Jax’s body as the catalyst to make it happen.  So, Jax made a hard decision.

Jax Flynn returns to the hometown where everyone saw him as a bad person and a trouble maker, and his twin brother Chase, they saw as the golden boy.  He returned when he got the news that his Uncle Rick had become terminally ill and may not last much longer.  As soon as he returns, events occur and the truth he always believed in begins to unravel.  Sam seems to have someone out to cause mayhem in her life and Jax has a demon set on making him feed him what he needs the most.  Now that Sam and Jax have reunited, can they ever be together finally or are they destined to never get that kind of chance?  Who is out to harm Sam?  And can Jax stop fate from happening, and stop hell on earth from occurring?

I do recommend this story because it is entertaining and readers will find it hard to know where the fine line of good and evil, ends and begins.  ‘Ruined’ is listed as being a part of a series, so I am looking forward to seeing what will be next in this series in the future.  Check this one out because the story keeps you curious in wanting to see who survives till the end.

How I imagined Jax, Samantha and Chase while reading ‘RUINED’:

1 collage 3

Jax’s thoughts:  Descendants of Cain, the world’s first murderer, some of the male children in my line came into this world a demon attached to their soul.

Jax’s thoughts:  The only thing that made leaving hard was her.  Samantha Merrick.  The girl who, to this day, still pulled me from the mire and made it possible to go on, even if she didn’t know it.  She was my anchor and kryptonite all at the same time.  Salvation and damnation in one beautiful, unattainable package.

Samantha’s thoughts:  Chase was one of my best friends, and yes, he was hot as hell, but not in an I-want-to-hook-up-with-him kind of way.  The attraction was less about how he looked and more about who he looked like.  His twin brother, Jax…

Jax’s thoughts (memory of when he first met Samantha):  Standing beside Rick and Chase,  I’d watched the girl with the long brown hair stand eerily still.  She didn’t cry.  Didn’t speak.  Only stood there staring at the ground as her parents were lowered into the cold, wet earth.  Even then, so early in my life, I saw pieces of myself mirrored in her eyes.  Lost.  Alone.  Separated.  Ruined.

Jax to Samantha “Sammy”:  “I fucking breathe you.  Your face, your laugh, the way you chew at your bottom lip…All of it.  All of you.  Any light you think you see in me is an echo of you.-(Jax)

Samantha’s thoughts:  I saw everything.  I felt everything.  His thoughts and emotions in all those moments were buzzing around inside my head, inside my heart, threatening to make my head explode.

Jax’s thoughts/his demon’s thoughts:  What happened in the next few moments would either save us and damn me forever, or get us both killed.
I don’t know how, or why, but you love her…
A picture of Sam flashed inside my head.
I’m going to need to give you control if we have any hope of getting out of here in one piece…

Jax/Demon’s thoughts:  I could smell my own rage, spicy and potent.  In embracing the demon, its feelings were now my own.  There was no turning back.  It was about to rain hell.
