The Synopsis of ‘Out Of Mind’:

Reaching for sunlight…

Finn survived the ambush and came home to me, but in his head, the battle is still raging. He’s falling apart and I’m trying my best to pick up the pieces of him, to find the us we used to be. I love him as much as I ever did, but love isn’t enough to fix this. I thought telling my father about our relationship would be the hardest thing we’d ever have to face. I was wrong.

Lost in shadows…

All I wanted was to be worthy of Carrie. One mission, just one, and I’d be able to give her the future she deserved. Then everything went wrong, leaving me tainted and broken. Carrie wants me to be who I was, but all that’s left is what they made of me. I’m no good for her. No good for anyone like this. I have to figure out how to move forward. Alone.

Sometimes love isn’t enough…

My ‘Blogging Reader’s Review’ after reading ‘OUT OF MIND’:

**Possible Spoilers if you’ve yet to read ‘Out Of Line’ and ‘Out Of Time’ from this series**

WHAT. AN. ENDING.  This is the third and final novel of the ‘Out Of Line’ Series by Jen McLaughlin, titled ‘Out Of Mind.’  This was definitely such a bittersweet book to read, knowing that it was anticipated but also the finale to Carrie and Finn’s story.  In this novel, you get to read the story from both Carrie and Finn’s P.O.V’s(point of views).

Carrie Wallington loves Finn with all of her heart and is willing to stick by him through his recovery, no matter what.   Now that her parents know about their relationship, what else could stand in their way?  She put all her fiery personality away and brings out a softer side in order to care for Finn while he recovers physically and mentally from his deployment.  When he begins to push her away, she is left fighting to hold on but he keeps slipping through her grasp.  She’s left feeling helpless while she watches the man she loves, fight his internal battles, alone…

Griffin ‘Finn’ Coram loves Carrie and had her on his mind through out his ordeal.  He returned broken, damaged and feeling less than worthy of her love and of life, in some ways.  No matter how hard he tries, he can’t help but push her away. While dealing with the tragedy of his deployment, more tragedy touches Finn’s life again, leaving him in a dark place. He needed to heal and pull himself out of that dark place but he doesn’t want to drag her down with him… no matter how much he loves her.

‘Out Of Mind’ takes you on such an emotional journey, with both heavyhearted and heartwarming moments.  These moments will make you wonder if Carrie and Finn can fight to survive this journey together. Can love be enough? The story talks about Finn dealing with his P.T.S.D. after his deployment as well as dealing with a loss. Sometimes love means, letting someone go… and sometimes love means, never truly giving up on hope.  This novel was the perfect ending to this series and to Carrie and Finn’s story in so many ways, I can’t express that enough. Thank you, Jen McLaughlin for writing a wonderful story with a perfect ending. I highly recommend not only this novel, but this entire series.  Now, with the author note at the end of the novel I have to ask: What’s in store for Hernandez, Marie and Riley? Do I see Spin-offs in the future? Hope so! 🙂

How I imagined Finn and Carrie while reading ‘OUT OF MIND’:

1 collage Carrie Finn 1

Finn’s thoughts:  Without fail, I would have a nightmare every night.  Also without fail, she would come in and comfort me until I fell back asleep.  Then in the morning, we pretended it never happened.

Carrie and Finn: “You were having the dream again, weren’t you?”-(Carrie)
I flopped back down hating that she was seeing me like this. Scarred. Weak. Broken. Scared.

Carrie to Finn:  “I’m always looking at you.  You’re gorgeous, brave, kind, and loving.  You’re Finn, and I love you just the way you are.  Forever, no matter what.

Finn’s thoughts:  I’d known, deep down to my soul, that we were meant to be together forever.  That I was the best man for her, because no one would make her happier than I could, because our love was just that fucking strong.  I’d been certain of it.  I couldn’t say the same thing anymore.

Finn and Carrie: “The sun is always shining around you, Ginger.”
My heart warmed. “Indeed it is.”

Finn’s thoughts: She took my heart with her, but I knew it would be safe in her hands.
