Who’s ready for ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’? It’s more intense than the first.

“You fought very hard in the games, Miss Everdeen. But they were games. Would you like to be in a real war?”

President Snow (Donald Sutherland) asks Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) this very ominous question in this trailer for “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire”. And from what we can see in the footage revealed in the trailer, it’s clear that a real war is exactly what she’s in for.

Everything in the trailer suggests that the second installment of the movies based on Suzanne Collins’ wildly popular book series will be bigger and more intense than the first.

After winning the 74th annual Hunger Games, Katniss and Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) find themselves at the center of a media circus, but he tells her, “I can’t go on acting for the cameras and then ignoring each other in real life.” But as their personal tension grows, so does the political unrest spurned by Katniss’ open rebellion against the Capitol.

“She has to be eliminated,” says Snow, and Plutarch Heavensbee (Philip Seymour Hoffman), the new Head Gamemaker, tells him, “I agree, but in the right way. At the right time.”

That right time is the 75th Hunger Games, or what’s known as the Quarter Quell. There, the competitors are chosen from the winners of the previous games, with the intention of forcing Katniss and Peeta back into the arena. Their mentor, Haymitch Abernathy (Woody Harrelson), warns the pair that the competition will be even more intense this time around: “Last year was child’s play. This year you’re dealing with all experienced killers.”

Like the trailer for the original “Hunger Games,” this one stops just as Katniss is about to enter the fight, but this time is different in two major ways. First, she is elevated up in the middle of a lake and has to literally dive into combat. But if you’ll notice, as she rises up the black bars at the top and bottom of the trailer pull away, revealing more of the picture. That’s because the action inside the arena was all shot on IMAX cameras (like they did for “The Dark Knight”), and the picture will fill the large-format screens. So when they say this new movie is bigger than the last, they mean it literally.
